If it's only on their best years, then why do we bother mentioning how many championships they won? Or All-star selections? Or etc etc.

For better or worse, I think a player's overall body of work impacts how we perceive their peak.

We’re doing this for fun. Don’t overthink this. How great were your players? That’s the bottom line. How great they were in your opinion and how, your 10 guys, collectively would measure up against opponents. Have some evidence to back it up if you want. I rarely choose to get that into it.

Yeah, one I'm thinking of will likely go in 8 or 9. He was so good that even his short, crippled body of work deserves discussion. Heck, there's a European from the same team who fits into that, too, altho for the opposite reason.

So, it's NOT only based on their best year?

It’s not rocket science. Player A. who’s been all nba 5+ times is probably better than player B. who’s done it once

An awesome team in terms of name recognition but I have no idea how to judge them compared to players frome the last 20 years. Jerry and Oscar being the prime examples. I think its a bad *** team in theory but I'd have a hard time voting for them I think.
