2020 Free Agency Thread

Smh. Terrible draft and terrible free agency. Four years is too many for JC. Full MLE too much for favors.

I disagree with what Plumlee and Leonard got. Also if Gobert gets injured are you gonna play dok for 48 min? I wanted the MLE to go to a defensive wing personally but the bar got set high with the Leonard and plumlee signing.

Houston's gone. Golden State's gone. Maybe the Jazz think this can work.

The teams they need to beat have bigs -- Denver, Portland, LAL...
The Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, and Mavericks are not. The Jazz have not done one single thing to address their inability to guard on the perimeter or stretch 5s.

Almost wonder whether there's a trade incoming. Not expecting, but would make some sense to avoid the hardcap.

Going back to playing two centers that can't dribble, pass, or spread the floor would really be the pies de resistance. A chef's kiss for the ages.
They played very well together when we had 3 shooters. They only struggled when paired with Rubio. I don't expect them to okay together a ton but at least I'm good matchups or if it's working at the end of the game. You put way too much on shooting. Favors passes decent. They both do tons of things well.

Nope... between JCs money and MLE we will be too close to the hard cap I think...
Don't think so.

6 guaranteed players + Azubuike and Hughes brought salaries to about $106.5 mil.

If Favs and JC are getting max raises, they'd combine for about $20.2 mil in 20/21.

LT is at 132.6 mil, apron is at $138.9 mil.

So the Jazz have plenty of space under the apron for their minimum/returning players and the BAE. Again, depending on how the Favs and JC contracts are structured (and assuming the Jazz are willing to dip their toe into the LT for the right player).

What league have you been watching the last decade? Shooting IS basketball, dude.

I love Favors more than most here and I've defended him to death, but this makes no sense! WTF is going on? Why would you draft a center and then sign Favors to 3 year contract? This makes no sense! Is Azubuike going to play in the G-League for 3 years now? WTF just happened? The only thing that would make this even remotely reasonable is if we are preparing to trade or lose Rudy in FA? But then this FO would be even more stupid than if they just spent a 1st round pick on a player who won't see the floor for 3 years.

Gobert can guard stretch bigs. We just need a defensive schematic that doesn’t collapse when he’s out there. Oh and some competent perimeter defenders.

Curious what our plans are at backup pg now. Assuming it’ll be a defensive minded player. How much can we spend now on free agents who weren’t on the Jazz last year?

I've watched Rudy dominate without shooting along with many others. Scoring is basketball. I don't care about a trend today. Play to your strengths.
In the playoffs? Rudy gets scouted and his effects mitigated in the playoffs every year. How do the teams that beat us every year score? They shoot better and in more varied ways than we do. It is one of the pillars of elite basketball.

GS won't go anywhere with Oubre instead Kley they will be slightly worse. Minnesota emerges for good season - the competition on the West side is even stronger than last year

To many things here I disagree with to debate. I leave you to your usual pity party.

Right. Which we've done nothing to address. The only way to protect the rim against 5-out offenses is with athletic wings. We'll see what happens with Bey and Woodard but I think at least one of them will be in the league and make us sad they aren't here.
