2020 Free Agency Thread

I gotta believe the FO has a lot of faith in 1 of Oni, Brantley, Tucker to develop, considering we invested exactly $0 on perimeter defense.

They may have faith, but that’s no placation. The last person they had faith in was TB and we rolled into the playoffs with him. We just paired him with assets to dump him.

Can the BAE be spent/split on two players?
Sure. Wouldn't amount to any/much more than veteran minimums if split.

But...a couple people are reporting the Jazz are already above the LT and at 14 players, so it sounds like the Jazz are done.

Honestly, I think there were guys on the Jazz that didn't want to be in the bubble any longer.
I agree with that. I think there were many issues though. Things changed after the temp shut down in the playoffs, it was a turning point. But defense, depth, and other things were issues. Anyone who watched that series and thinks better shooting is what we needed is someone I struggle to respect their opinion.

For what it’s worth, trading Conley for OPJ puts us back under the tax.

Noted. If the Jazz make a big trade, it would be Mike, a) because teams will want him and his big expiring contract, and b) the Jazz would lose his value in a year.

Oh, and he's overpaid.

This is such an over reaction by DL... classic.

The TB minutes in the playoffs weren’t great but guess what... we were plus in those minutes. The problem was we had no perimeter defenders... so we addressed a regular season problem with a first and our MLE. Where are all the Udoka is a great pick... he’s Shaq... he will dominate from Day 1... those statements are actually all true because he will be dominating... in the g league.

We are now a better team. We have a solid 8 man rotation for the playoffs. Unfortunately without addressing our perimeter defense we will still fall short of deep playoff aspirations.

I love Favors more than most here and I've defended him to death, but this makes no sense! WTF is going on? Why would you draft a center and then sign Favors to 3 year contract? This makes no sense! Is Azubuike going to play in the G-League for 3 years now? WTF just happened? The only thing that would make this even remotely reasonable is if we are preparing to trade or lose Rudy in FA? But then this FO would be even more stupid than if they just spent a 1st round pick on a player who won't see the floor for 3 years.
We’ve seen this movie before.

This makes sense if we don’t think Rudy is on the roster in a year or two. But even then I mean it’s rough.

mans I’m with you... it was overkill to give Favs the max... I’m cool with it because we are now better and Favs is the best dude... but that pick was nonsense before and now it’s clown ****... DL is reactionary and lazy. We need new management. We will win enough games to make the playoffs and we will be good so he will keep his job... which is what this move is about.

I just figured out a way to square this off-season up in mind so it makes at least a bit of sense. I am just going to pretend the draft never happened. We lost our picks somewhere along the way... lets say Adam Silver took them away for Rudy acting a fool in the early pandemic stages. If you ignore the draft... you can argue we got better... well.. maybe not as good as we could have, but better nonetheless.

The Chicago bulls are in the market for a veteran point guard also. May be something there. Then they can sign a pg on a deal similar to Mudiay or so. Gives us perimeter D in OPJ and wiggle room to sign a Mudiay Neto type player.
