2020 Free Agency Thread

Seconds appear out of thin air from what I’ve heard from the front office defenders... we can have 15 of em here tomorrow for a happy meal.

I think they like those guys and we pay the tax unless we make a trade of Mike or someone with some actual salary.

I think Niang could get a second round drafted guy... waive NWG and give someone a million dollars for their guy.
Eh, poaching from the D-League seems just as effective as rolling with a second round pick. Non-lottery picks in general are way overrated.

But if those are free agents signed out of the G League, they'd count against the LT and Apron as a second year minimum contract player (if I'm understanding correctly). To drop salary against the LT, the Jazz have to swap their guys for players on rookie minimum who were drafted by their current team.

If this kind of movement would get the job done, then I’ll rejoice if only because some of this **** will start to make sense.

I’d still put the likelihood of a Mike trade at less than 10%, though.

That kind of trade would make more sense right before the deadline then right now. If the Jazz are fighting for a sixth or seventh seed, trading Conley just to keep his salary total open makes sense. He'd probably agree to a sign and trade next year anyway if he goes anywhere else though. . .

We just gave away a pick in 2027. Anyone have any idea what the Jazz gonna look like by then? I don't think the FO has a clue themselves. They just had their eyes fixed on saving that 300k

Is there ever a day you don’t whine like a little bitch ?? Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself complain ??

Rayjon Tucker could land with the Clippers.

OK, please tell me how DL manages to find the worst deals ? Why did we need to use a 2nd when there were obviously teams willing to sign Tucker for nothing? Is he even calling around to see what's on the table or is he just dealing with the same 4-5 GMs he's close with? CLE, NYK, DET, it's always the same teams we are dealing with and getting fleeced by.

The mystery of the Tucker deal thickens.

I'm sure some of the KOC rubbed off on him, where his strategy was to talk to nobody so as to never reveal your hand. It had been out there that KOC talked to nobody else regarding DWill. Now, I get the idea behind that, and maybe you lock in on something, but I can't help but think you can quickly get the lay of the land before pulling the trigger.

And this was the ***-chapper for me: if everyone was hot to sign this guy, how come we couldn't get someone to take him for free? Either he sucks and we're stupid, or there are people out there who will do that and we're, again, stupid.

I'm serious, though. This is third deal this off-season where we sold players for negative value who were later traded/signed for positive/neutral value.

Gave up 2 seconds to get rid off Ed Davis, who then was flipped for a second rounder + Spellman and Jacob Evans.
Then we gave up a second rounder to get rid off Tony Bradley who was immediately flipped for a second rounder and Zhaire Smith.
Then we gave up a second to get rid off 300K from Tucker's salary and he's now signing the same contract with the Clippers.

For what it’s worth, Tucker’s deal with the Clippers is an Exhibit 10 deal. Not sure they would have traded for him for the amount he was guaranteed by the Jazz contract. In fact, they may not have been able to as I read they are very close to their hard cap.

Don’t all those deals look different, though, if you’ve got a mission to get below the tax line and can’t take any incoming salary?

In KOC's defense I think he made a very good deal with Nets for Dwill that gave us Favs and a third pick in the draft(though we wasted it on Kanter) Not sure anyone else could have done any better. Certainly not DL. Though some credit has to be given to Nets GM Billy King, who's now arguably one of the dumbest GMs of all time

True to some extent but it also shows that those players had positive value to other teams. All you have to do is find the teams who feel like those players have positive value and open the bidding. Maybe you don't get the 2nd rounders back because you don't want salary back, but at the very least IMO they should have been able to spare us giving up most of those 2nds.

Yeah but trading #23 for #27 and #38 in the draft which a few hours later that same #23 was flipped for #25 and #33 are exactly the same type of deal. All DL gotta do in this situation is to start talking to Twolves GM instead of......picking up the phone again when the Knicks called him about Ed. Not hard.

So then you send them 250k in cash and no picks... oh wait... that’s right... we got cash in the deal.

They canvass the league according to DL but they frequently only trade with like two teams. Hmmmmm

I totally missed that the Knicks did that.

You’re in trouble if the Knicks make your organization look amateur, especially if it’s more than one time in just a couple of days.

Or it just means the UFA pool is super small right now in regards to talent because of the weird start and teams are just taking whoever they can off the scrap heap.

If everyone knows Utah wants to get below the LT, then why would they just take him for free? Especially a West competitor.

Some of you are really stupid and it shows.
