Tokyo has dreams of grandeur for their Olympics in 2020. IMO: how it should be done. Some of this is already out there, but they plan on putting it up large scale. Good for them!

Some of the innovations listed:

Robot Village
Instant Language Translation apps
Autonomous Taxi
8k TV Broadcasts(7680x4320 resolution)
Algae fueled Airlines
Hydrogen powered villages
Artificial Meteor Showers(Satellite shoots chemicals through atmosphere, burning like class 3 meteorites)
Superspeed Maglev Trains(up to 374 mph)
5G networks(theoretical standard, demonstratable 2 gigabits/second)

Pretty cool stuffs

I'm pretty sure the Robot Village is just a huge garage for repairing and storing robots. It's not a place where robots go to socialize. Instead of volunteers standing on every corner directing traffic there will be robots. Sucks for anyone who was hoping to volunteer in order to get a jacket, I guess.

Artificial meteor showers? Whoa!

I have a daughter who is anti-progress. She's going to hate all of this.

I don't get why this would matter to you. Just get a TV in the resolution that you want and move on.

I mean, I'm not that bothered by it, just find the television technology thing ridiculously funny. Wouldn't surprise me if 8K TV's were old news by 2020 and people had 16K TV's.

It's the eventual robot takeover. You can tell because they emphasize their robots won't be racist, ageist, or have class discrimination. They are going out of there way to try to convince us they have nice robots when in reality they will be ruthless killers training to overtake the world.

I think the point is that there is no reason for you to spend money on extra resolution that your eye isn't sensitive enough to perceive. This Ultra HD stuff is great for a tablet that you view from within 18 inches but you're not going to sit that close to your TV, so it's kinda pointless. It's a gimmick to get you to waste your money and be happy about it. People that rave about how it looks so much better are like teenagers that act like they're drunk after drinking an O'DOUL'S.

We really need to genetically engineer giant lizards. Then maybe we can get a treaty with Japan.

If you keep making these...

Then we will be forced to make these

The robot takeover is inevitable. Eventually they're going to realize that their masters are pretty flawed and their programming will ultimately force them to do something about it. There is no stopping it, though, so not much point worrying.

This is why I said I don't know why it matters. Just get a TV with the resolution you want and move on. If someone else wants a picture that they can blow up and study at the atomic level I have no problem with it.
