2021 Draft Homer Official List

Haven't followed the draft a ton, but I'm a big Jared Butler fan. I do like him for some different reasons than HH, however. I have a different view on potential than the norm. If you go through previous drafts and look at the guys who exceeded their draft position, you'll find a lot of guys who were cast as role players for one reason or another (size, age, athleticism, ect).

I think Butler could be one of those guys. I love the smoothness of his game and ability to score/playmake in different situations. He's also a tough defender with a great deal of strength. I can more easily see him being an all star than a lot of the typical "high potential" run and jump athletes.
The off court stuff is also super promising. He will reach his ceiling if his health allows.

We can't move up and it is illogical to give a win now piece like JC or Bojan to get him but man I'd be really tempted to slide up and the draft and get him if we were thinking more long term.

I do have just a touch of hope that Butler falls to #30 and we are smart enough to keep the pick and take him. Last year several mocks had Terry, Bane, McDaniels likely gone before we pick. Hopefully we get a small miracle or are able to move up a couple spots with just cash considerations... like maybe with Denver or Houston.

Plus he’s a Baylor kid. Maybe we can move Favors and 30 to move up? Doubtful but maybe…maybe?

The other guy I'm very high on is Springer. I haven't seen a second of him play but the draft nerds love him. I've seen the numbers and I'm blindly with them.

The case for Springer:

- He's only 18
- Strong steal/block numbers which are strong statistical indicators
- 43% from 3 and 81% from the line
- High free throw rate, good FG% at and low assisted% at the rim shows great ability to attack the rim
- Decent TS% despite high volume and terrible efficiency from mid range. Can improve here and potentially be a star, or can be taken out of his game to be a highly efficient role player

Again, haven't watched film on him, but he is the guy where I'm struggling to understand why he's not ranked higher.

I'm starting to like Grimes at 30. He's got perimeter shooting and hustles on defense. Possibly a Jazz type of player. And maybe buy an early 2nd rd pick and get one of these guys, JT Thor, Herb Jones, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Bones Hyland and Jason Preston as well.
I'm coming around on Grimes as well. A Danny Green type if things work out for him?

I don't know how easy it will be to buy an early 2nd rounder. A late second rounder? Sure. But all the best pickings will be gone by then.

Springer is an exceptional athlete with great balance, quickness and advanced timing. His athleticism translates well on the defensive end, where he moves laterally as well as anyone in the draft that I've seen. He's super young and still developing as a basketball player. He's playing off of instinct and natural ability right now and will need to develop into a role. If he's dropping relative to other guys, it's because he's a bit raw.

**** it, put me down for Herb Jones. I’ve done 5 minutes of research, but I like this kid. Job done.

Im also thinking of changing to Wieskamp as well. I'd like to pick a player the Jazz are actually interested in drafting and I dont think Christopher is going to be one of those guys.
