2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Jason Preston is another interesting name. I dont know a lot yet, but stats and body wise he's pretty comparable to Lonzo Ball.

I don’t watch college hoops anymore, really, so I don’t know much about the prospects, but two names that intrigue me, and not sure why they aren’t more hyped on mock drafts.

Scottie Lewis and Makur Maker.

Lewis is a 6-5 guard that seems athletic and looks like he could be a monster on defense.

Makur has unreal physical attributes, 7footer with the skill set of a guard who is a decent 3 pt shooter.

I’m not in this thread all that often, so sorry if they’ve been discussed. Will they be in the jazz range? Are they good? Tell me.

My draft dream would be to trade down with okc for 34 and 36 if Thor is t available at 30. Then hopefully you can get two of Wieskamp/Christopher/Roko/Grimes/Vrenz/McBride
i like this idea but why would OKC want a 4th first-round pick unless they use their other 3 picks to move up. More likely they would be willing to give up one of their seconds for cash and a future second.

Why would you ask a question you answered yourself?

They would be consolidating two worse assets to get a higher one. Then they could use that to further consolidate or do w/e. I think that kind of trade is something pretty logical and has historical precedent.

Yahoo's latest has Thor going 29:

This kind has Thor going lottery at 13.

Christopher at 30, which I support.

I'd be neutral on Christopher, but I admit the guard depth in this draft means a high-value player will be available at #30, whether it's Dosunmu, Christopher, Butler or Hyland. Those are all talents that could go early 20s in a different year. It's also possible that Christopher would have looked better on a more functional team than ASU this year.

On paper, Christopher looks to be about as good a prospect as Kevin Porter Jr. at USC.

I just think there are a couple Euros this year who could be close to lottery-level talents that are being underscouted and underrated as a result.

JT Thor being mocked in the early teens to the 2nd round. I'm convinced he's either going to be out of the league in 2 years or a future All-NBA player. No in between and I want the Jazz to be all in on him.

Here's what Chad Ford says about Mercedes Vrenz...

34 VRENZ BLEIJENBERGH
SF, BELGIUM

Age 20.6 | 6'10" | 210

Primary Attributes: Defense, ballhandling

Bleijenbergh is a sleeper who profiles as a big 3-and-D wing who has the playmaking ability to be a secondary ball-handler and the athleticism to defend multiple positions. His production for Antwerp this season was inconsistent at best, and he’s going to have to become a better rebounder and more reliable shooter. But he has the raw skills, size and athletic ability that NBA teams desire. The Rockets, Nuggets, Suns and Jazz are potential late first-round landing spots.

Draft range: 25-40

I'll be honest, I have some doubts about Thor. His reactions look a bit slow to me. I know he's a measurements darling, but I'm not sure how much of that athleticism will translate to production. I don't think he's in the same tier as Kai Jones, and I don't think he's the same level prospect as Roko Prkacin. I personally don't see him being a markedly better prospect than Greg Brown at the moment, unless you really believe his shooting will develop. You could also take Moses Wright in the 2nd round and fill nearly the same role without waiting a year or two for him to develop.

I see the upside obviously, but to me he's risky enough that he really should go in the early 2nd round like Nic Claxton did a couple years ago.

If the Jazz want another high-risk/high-reward play, Brandon Boston might be more compelling, since he could be a 3-level scorer as well as a wing defender.

If you took this JC, you'd almost have to trade the incumbent JC, wouldn't you? Aren't they likely to fill virtually the same role?
I mean, I think JC could potentially be traded this year or next. You dont have to do it right away. A freshman who underachieved probably isnt ready to step in Day 1 and contribute full rotation minutes. He's big enough to play the 3 as well in some lineups just to get him out there.

Yall remember that Sene guy about 15 years ago with the ridiculous wingspan who just never amounted to anything? I get that vibe with Thor.

I honestly didn’t even know about Thor’s measurements and didn’t use them to inform my opinion.

It’s all from film and I love his film. He’s not a Sene at all IMO.

Disagree on Thor but totally agree on Boston in the 2nd round.

I saw enough to think he’s someone that could really develop and well out kick his draft position.
