2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Have the Jazz even had workouts yet? Is there going to be no post-workout interview coverage this year?
Unlike in previous years, the Jazz have been keeping their draft workouts quiet and have not been making players available for interviews. Jazz have had a bunch of workouts so far --- including Trendon Watford, Bones Hyland, AJ Lawson, Sandro Mamuk... and some others. They also co-hosted that big combine in Minnesota and probably interviewed all the players there.

Jazz have been working out a bunch of mid-2nd round players, so maybe they have options to buy into the 2nd round.

This is worth checking out, imo. This might be Klutch Sports agency. This is 6pm Mtn time on ESPN 2.

Isaiah Todd worked out for the Wizards, who draft at #15. If he got positive feedback there, he'd focus on working out for lottery teams going forward.

Aren't the lotto teams generally the same as those with high second rounders. I hope (for his sake) that he's not thinking he'll go in the lottery while the teams are pegging him for first half of the second round.

Some of the prospects that have a good chance of sneaking into the 1st round are Josh Primo, Joe Wieskamp, Isaiah Todd, and Quentin Grimes. That means someone's probably going to slide from top 20.

Not really, no. Washington doesn't have a 2RP right now. A bunch of 2RPs have been traded to non-lottery teams.

Add Bones Hyland and Josh Christopher to your list. The big from NC Day-Ron Sharpe may be on the 1st-rd bubble too--he's been shooting the ball well. Definitely a guard or two is going to drop to #30. I'm starting to think the Jazz may have a chance at Roko if both Thor and Murphy are gone. Ayo Dosunmu may be a real possibility at #30.

This is also good for the Jazz because it means more teams will call to acquire the #30 pick.

Hyland and Christopher have already boosted their stock and are 1st round prospects already though.

Maybe… only 30 guys are first rounders. Last year it seemed Bey and Woodard would go late first and both guys slipped.

Here's what I've got ---

Top 5: Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs, Scottie Barnes
6-10 range: Jonathon Kuminga, Jalen Johnson, James Bouknight, Alperin Sengun, Moses Moody
11-15 range: Keon Johnson, Davion Mitchell, Kai Jones, Josh Giddey, Corey Kispert
16-20 range: Franz Wagner, Usman Garuba, Isaiah Jackson, Sharife Cooper, Chris Duarte

None of these guys are dropping to #30, unless Isaiah Jackson somehow takes a fall.

However, 6 of these guys will be available at #30:
Ziaire Williams, Trey Murphy, Josh Primo, JT Thor, Jaden Springer,
Roko Prkacin, Tre Mann, Jared Butler, Cam Thomas, Bones Hyland,
Ayo Dosunmu, Day-Ron Sharpe, Josh Christopher, Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Todd.

If the Jazz want to hone in on a guard, that's probably pretty safe. They'd be looking at Ayo, Bones and Christopher.

Brandon Boston showed how far away he is from contributing during his Pro Day yesterday. Still adapting to NBA range.

Locke has done podcast now with draft talk as a main part of them and I'm not sure if he has even mentioned Utah and 30. He's just kind of walking down the line of top prospects, starting with #1, and looking at their synergy stats.

I'm excepting him to get to the Jazz's range and be like "Oh, well the guys in this range arent very good, it wouldnt shock me if they trade out"

I think he may fall in love with Jared Butler though when he gets there. As long as he is cleared to play I'd love to have him. Without a medical issue I think he would be a lotto pick... if you told me we traded JC for the #21 pick (salary relief type deal with NY) and we got Butler to play a bench role.. I definitely wouldn't hate it.

But to your point... if they flip the #30 for two seconds this year it saves like $10M... and you can sell it as "we got two guys for the price of one!"... rather than an owner pinching pennies.
