Just because Malone was incredible doesn't mean that Kemp wasn't awesome. Kemp was actually the defensive backbone of those teams (they fell apart when they traded him, even with Payton still on the squad). He is significantly better than both Griffin and Stoudemire (most similar players) for that reason.
