2022 Annual Jazzfanz All Time NBA Draft

Out of everyone in the draft you were the one guy I was worried about taking him. Very underrated big. Every round that went by I thought about taking him, but I got the impression he'd fly under the radar for awhile. He had solid interior D, and a solid inside game. I had to get some defensive oriented bigmen to hang with the Shaq, Wilts, Kareems, Hakeems of the world. I think that task is done. Lol. Walton, Gilmore, Malone, and Gasol in the post? Jeeeez!! Lol.

There's still some very solid bigs on the board though.
Oh - I absolutely would’ve taken him under normal circumstances. Probably before this point even, but I’m doing something different this year. There’s one other guy that I love still on the board, but I’m worried he’ll go undrafted. If that looks like it might happen, I’m going to need to jump my board and take him.

Man's gonna be a force off the bench.

Averaged 17 ppg/10 RPG vs young Hakeem at 35 Years old!

7'2 next to 7'1 Gasol? Good luck to your big men!

No one here can respect what Gilmore brings to the game. I drafted him a couple of times and the comments were "but he's an old guy from the 70's when everyone was really only 6'5" and couldn't run. He'd get slaughtered by Whiteside today!"

People are stupid.

Great pick.

Mchale so disrespected. Crazy picks this draft.
It is really just anyone before recent memory is disrespected. Recency bias is a real thing. The Gilmore pick is a great example. If anyone had seen him play they would have a different opinion. He was a force. He was another in a long list of dominant players that just never had the right team around them. On a team like they are building here he would be the perfect power player to clog the middle and get every damn rebound. Even at an older age he went toe to toe with some we feel are true greats, like Moses Malone and as was stated in the post, a young Hakeem. It makes it tough to make picks from the older eras outside of the requirement.

Jerry West-Bob Cousy
Kobe Bryant
Luka Doncic
Scottie Pippen
Willis Reed-Marc Gasol

So far.
I like it a lot. I do question how 2 players that averaged a usage of over 30 are going to share the ball in Kobe and Luka. Although if they can make it work they will be a force.

That's crazy. Back in the 70's the average height was the same as today. There were a lot of great bigs in the 70's too. Even at an advanced age Gilmore was a baller vs the big men of the 80's.

Yeah it really is the recency bias thing. And the idea that "if you put that guy on the floor today he couldn't keep up with the pace and the athletes today" ignoring the fact that these guys were top-level athletes when these dudes still smoked like chimneys and drank on game days and ****. With modern medicine and training they would be even more dominant. Hell, Gilmore was one of the few who had a legit sky-hook, with the left hand no less, and could hit jumpers out to 18 feet. Yeah no 3 pt shot but who is to say he couldn't develop one, like Lopez did over his career. And in his freaking rookie year he averaged 23 pts 20 boards and 5 blocks. So cut those in half and he is automatically rookie of the year even today. We sadly devalue the guys from the past because we want to believe we live in the more dominant age, but we have been making that same argument for decades. It just doesn't hold water.
