2023 NBA Draft Megathread

This guy has a good summary of the top 20 prospects in the class, starting at 16:47. I agree with a lot of his takes. If I were the Jazz, I'd be hoping for an elite wing in the top 8 (e.g., a Thompson, Whitmore, Jackson), a potential lead guard in the late lottery (e.g., Black, Wallace), and either a wing shooter (e.g., Howard, Dick) or a versatile big (e.g., Baba, Leonard Miller) in the late teens or early 20s.

now with Sexton out indefinitely they are probably going to struggle some as they have been with the bench unit. Unless Hardy wakes up the Beast aka King Ochai

I think we end up with one pick in the 11-14 range... one in the mid teens and one in the 20s. Hoping we can package the one in the 20s with a future pick to jump into the 11-16ish range. Or package the one in the 11-14 range with a future first to jump to 7-8.

Is there a big drop-off from 7-8 to 11-14? I thought we had a clear consensus top 2 once in a lifetime picks, then a solid group from like 3-15 or something. Will it be worth it to give up future assets to get 3 or 4 picks better if it doesn't get you to the top of the lottery?

For me there are like 12-13 guys I really like… a few to watch and some solid fliers… draft boards will have some tiers later on. I could see a tier forming from like 3-8ish. Then it might be like 9-14 for the next tier.

It’s all super fluid cuz it’s so early but I could see some reasons to aggregate picks or use future picks to jump up 5-10 spots. It’s why I still think we should look to collect a couple more picks if we could.

With injuries always playing in, potential high ceiling draftees, foolishly returing to school unexpectedly, often after testing the waters, and many coming up short . Most literally measuring out much shorter & with less than ideal lengths, for their best positions on paper, or film study, in college etc. I think it is often fair to assume there is really no sure thing in any draft this soon.
I am not sold there is much to get excited about outside the top 5 besides finding a gem

I think there are 7 guys I'm already pretty sold on... I think the next 6-7 are good shots at being gems... then there are like 5 guys sprinkled in top 20 or so that I'm pretty skeptical on or they just aren't the player types I would be excited about. There will be a few guys that jump into the top 25. Overall I feel pretty solid on the draft. I'd just really like to get the wing that we need or the star we need. I'd trade a pick to move in the 3-7 range to get Whitmore, Miller or a Thompson twin. Don't think those guys fall outside the top 10.

GG Jackson intrigues me. I'm also intrigued by Brandon Miller but want to see him improve against the good teams.
I'm sold on Miller and GG would likely be pretty high in the tier of guys in the 8-14ish range for me. For GG I would just really want to know the off court stuff... not that he has issues... just would want to know what type of worker he is.

Jordan Hawkins has become my favorite late lotto/mid first guy in the draft. Pure stroke, good athlete, three level scorer and will be even better with NBA spacing.

He's 17 and the third highest scorer in the SEC, so I'm assuming the work ethic checks out.

You can be a leading scorer on talent alone in college, doesn't say much about work ethic as a freshman
He has amazing physical tools… has some skill… would want to know how hard and how smart he works.

I still feel Minnesota is going to end in the 8-10 range. Time will tell
I think we end up hoping they lose in the play in. If they can hit one stretch where they get like 5-6 in a row they should be in that range. We can all hope.
