2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Back to the rebounding discussion: All the more reason to be very high on Brandon Miller. Dude is one of the strongest rebounding freshman wing prospects in recent memory.

Not sure how to run it, but I'm sure if you ran his rebounding rate w/ his 3pt rate/percentages it would be clearly elite for any position.

yup. subpar game offensively last night, but 14 boards. one of the things i liked about him coming out of HS was his motor - just seemed to always play hard. coincidentally, i thought shooting was going to be a weakness.

you get a guy as skilled as he is, who shoots as well as he does and who plays hard, you draft that guy really high.

I don’t but some podcaster I was listening to made it out like he may not end up playing this year when he first had the injury… like maybe it was a just be safe and not risk it type of thing. It was more in passing than like a deep convo… but I raised my eyebrow when I heard it. Was like a “if Nick plays for Arkansas” type of thing.

For me this hurts my dream of getting Black… he’s gonna put up bigger numbers and see his stock rise… sad face.

Another potential oad is ND frosh JJ Starling - he’s been really good so far. Could be a mid-late first target. 20 pts on 11 shots tonight vs FSU

A player to keep an eye on, probably in the 2nd round, is Brice Sensabaugh from Ohio State. He's a tough, workman-like wing at 6'6" and 230+ lbs who hustles and is a good shooter. He should be a switchable, 3D guy who plays a role similar to Grant Williams with the Celtics. Might be a good value pick. He's shooting 48% from 3pt so far.

Cason Wallace, man. The only “knock” on him is that he hadn’t been dynamic offensively - more of a steady offensive presence. If he’s going to show that kind of game offensively, watch the eff out.

I love the defense and he's a solid shooter from distance (at least in college), but I don't think he's advanced enough offensively to play on the ball full time. I haven't seen a lot of shift or wiggle to get by guys and create opportunities. His drives are pretty rudimentary. He might be able to play in pick-and-roll, but I think he's probably a 3D guy who plays next to a dynamic wing that does most of the handling. He has a pretty high floor as a 3rd or 4th guard in the role of a Derrick White, imo, and he could certainly be more than that. His offense just has a ways to go. I could see him getting drafted in the late lottery or mid-1st round.

Looks seriously undersized for how he likes to play. 6'6'' is SG size in the NBA, this guy plays more like a power forward.

I get some Marcus Smart type vibes who Ainge also drafted.
Outside of Scoot teams will need to be creative in looking for wings with playmaking abilities in this draft as PG is the weakest position.

i don't disagree, but my point is, last night he showed more offensively than we've seen from him both as a scorer and as a playmaker. if he can continue to develop in those areas, he could be pretty special.

You should be disagreeing. Ferguson likes to put prospects into unnecessarily small boxes.

When I look at a prospect, I look at how intelligently and effectively they move, since that's the key to everything on both ends. I can usually make an assessment pretty quickly by watching just a few games, and it doesn't usually change unless they show something completely new and different down the road.

I'm not convinced that Wallace is an above-average starter at the PG spot, and depending on the team that drafts him, he might not be a starter at all. If you look at other tough, defensive-minded PGs--guys like Jrue, Marcus Smart or Terry Rozier, for example--they're much more dynamic as shot creators. They're better at creating separation and attacking defenses off the dribble. The way Cason plays would be fine, if he were 6'5", but I think he's going to come out closer to 6'3". He's not going to be able to bully guys and get by them. He's not going to be able to make plays over the defense. He's probably going to be used off the ball a lot in an offense that really moves and shares it.

The way the Jazz play, where a lot of creation comes from the wings attacking, then Cason Wallace can play off the ball, knock down open shots, and not be at the center of the action. So there could be a fit there. I'd just be reluctant to take Cason in the lottery, unless he fits a role that the Jazz envision at the 1.

I don't see the upside that would make him a high lottery pick. I think he's the guy you take in the mid-teens.
