2023 NBA Draft Megathread

if there is one thing they do well in college it's play defense. it's really hard to score in college basketball - mostly it's really hard for freshmen to score in college basketball. there is a reason you see routinely see scores in the 50s and 60s and their are three people in the country averaging over 22 ppg. three dudes who average more than 22 ppg. and there is a reason a guy like Cam Whitmore with all his tools, is only averaging 13 ppg (on worse efficiency than Miller)

there are six guys from power conferences averaging 20+. one of those is brandon miller. the other five are all juniors and seniors. among those six players, only Zach Edey (who is 7'4") who only shoots within about 5 feet of the basket is more efficient than Miller.
playing good collegiate defense is still not the same thing as beating the best defender on a pro roster which if Miller is to get the usage and be the guy he is at the pro level he would have to be able to do night in and night out.
I like him, but there are concerns about his lack of creation ability off the dribble to create separation at a elite level, even if half the time he gets open looks from good team play and knocks em down/

@Ferguson_Mellochill do you think GG will be better in a 3 year redraft than Brandon Miller?

If GG hits then probably yes. He has a higher ceiling. GG's combination of athleticism, handle and self creation make him a better long-term prospect. GG has the potential to become a #1 offensive option. Miller has the potential to become a #2 or #3 offensive option, similar to guys like Khris Middleton and Nic Batum.

Because everyone knows the best players are ordered 1-500 by their athleticism.

Brandon Miller, to me, looks like a great college player. Statistically, he's right up there with guys like Shane Battier, Keegan Murray and maybe even Michael Beasley. As a floor spacer and off-ball shooter who can create a bit, he'll be good. I'm sure he'll have a long and prosperous career. He's just not the guy I'd want at the top of the lottery. I still have him 7th or so, in part because Nick Smith's knees have me spooked.

GG Jackson is shooting 29% from the field in SEC play over 5 games and I think it's only going to get worse.

Save me the ******** about his exceptional self-creation and handle.

GG Jackson's OBPM is .4 for the season. His DBPM is -1.6. South Carolina played an incredibly easy non-conference schedule as well.

In all my years of following the draft these are some of the worst numbers I have ever seen out of someone considered to be a lottery prospect.

Two of those games were 40-pt blowouts that were over in less than 7 minutes of game time. Teams can press up on him and have defenders waiting for him in the paint, because no one else on the team can create and only two other guys can shoot.

Once teams do pre-draft workouts, he'll put himself back in the lottery. If GG falls to the later lottery, that's great news for the Jazz, as it means they can get him.

We share the same pipe. I wouldn't put Clowney that high though. He must've gotten a couple more hits than I did
Black and Wallace both falling out of the lotto. Max Lewis is too high... Miller slipping that far. Those are my main concerns there.

Here's a mock draft from Bleacher Report that came out today. Jonathan Wasserman has Brandon Miller at #7. Here's their lottery: Wembanyama, Henderson, Amen, Ausur, Nick Smith, Whitmore, Brandon Miller, Walker, George, Howard, Jackson, Lewis, Dick, Clowney.

Bleacher Report Mock Draft
shocking how overrated nick smith has been by so many mock drafters. if he were a better vertical athlete, maybe i could understand it, but he seems like a poor man's keyonte george. basically george who isn't as big, and whose skillset is a little worse in every way. between nick smith and keyonte george, it's george all day.

I feel like this draft isn't that amazing outside of the top 2. Maybe it's just 3-10 that feels week, but I'm also not super excited about the guys in our range either 10-16.
