2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Based on my very limited game watching so far, I really like Wallace. I am a little concerned about his size. He's not undersized, but neither do I think he's the "big point guard" that some were promising earlier in the season.

But more than that, I'm concerned about his back. That's one of the last places you want to be worried about coming out of the draft. I get that MPJ has kind of survived despite perhaps worse back problems, but can anyone talk me out of my concerns?

Yeah maybe ‘undersized’ is a little too strong a word as it seems to have triggered many here.. maybe let’s just use the term @NUMBERICA coined which was ‘sub-optimal’.

I happy to use that going forward..

Kinda the same way people are unhappy with the term ‘tanking’ but most have now accepted that what we did this year was actually ‘tank-lite’.

More draft propaganda. This time defense. Oh boy he looks like a real good two way player.

Do we have a French Giannis situation going on here? Not exactly like 7 foot Giannis but the athletic dude who keeps growing… I think based on pics I saw that he looks like a dude that could hit a grow spurt. I know it’s dumb but huge feet and his arms/body seem super skinny. Looks like he could pack on some muscle. IDK… just wonder if GMs tamp down the hype or if the machine goes full tilt.

Really....so GG is just going to walk in the NBA and will never have to consider defense or making a pass. His biggest fanboys are literally wanting to see him make a single pass lol. But it's "insane" to think that has to change.

I think you're completely insane if you think he doesn't have to change.
You are going so overboard. He did show defensive potential and who cares if he isn't a good passer yet. Whitmore averaged even less assists per game and I don't see one word about him not passing. Keep digging that hole though and we can come back in a couple years and see who was right.

Bullseye . I think that's the case here. He already has great core strength and insane bounce but everything else needs to catch up. It is not uncommon to transition from being weak yet athletic to becoming an insanely strong as your body fills out. If I had to bet on one player in this class who would have a transformation it is him.

Think about it...his biggest weakness is that he hasn't grown into his body. So when he does grow into his body then he becomes.... it's the lamest weakness one could have.

Toying with the idea of drafting Black at 9 and Schifino at 16. I’m not really advising we draft Black, but both these two can play make at the guard position. We’d have a starting lineup of 6-6, 6-7, 7-0, 6-11, 7-1. That’s ridiculous. I don’t know if Black needs to be a great shooter, as far as I know he defends well and can stuff a stat sheet. If he can do that, and play defense and hit the mid range shot and floaters with some consistency and the occasional three point shot went open, then he and Schifino would be a great and realistic pairing in the draft.

Thoughts?

In any event, 10-day guys aren’t supposed to help you win.

Are you sure? I mean arent the nuggets, bucks, grizzlies, sixers, celtics, cavs, knicks, warriors, etc all playing lots of 10 day guys in their playoff rotation?

He’s undersized though.
Yeah, probably a big reason he plays 18 mpg, averages 5 points, and can't get to the ft line. He's basically a one position defensive pest who you can't play who is hard to get on the court next to another small/average sized guard.

How tall do you think Marcus Smart is? How about Kris Dunn? Kyrie, Kemba, Avery Bradley, Isaiah Thomas, Terry Rozier, Carsen Edwards? Ainge-length theory isn’t quite there. I do agree that length is preferable, however I think Wallace’s defense is so good that it negates any size issue. I think you need to watch his highlight video again.

This is my opinion, but I think that Wallace’s defense is superior to GG’s offense and his offense is heads and shoulders above GG’s defense.
this is a good point. wallace has decent size. i wouldn't call him undersized and i wouldn't say he has great size. he's about average for his position. but, you can overcome a lack of size (again, not that he lacks size) with strength, athleticism and elite defense. a guy like jrue doesn't have great size, but he's so good defensively and so strong, aint nobody taking advantage of him due to lack of elite size. jrue is the comp for wallace, ftr. you take wallace you hope he becomes jrue.
