2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Easy response is you’re not a hater. There are people that will piss on everything he does like it’s undeserving of even being in a urinal.

I’m sure if someone watched me shoot a jumper someone would think I’ve never played either. Not having talent or learning dog **** fundamentals as a child does not negate the entirety of someone’s perspective on a matter.
I'm not a hater... but I'll lol at him. If I truly hated him I wouldn't listen.

And it takes all types of perspectives for sure... but I do think someone who has never played at all might have some blind spots. My judgement of his form does not necessarily mean he never played... and you don't have to play at a certain level nba, college, or HS to be an expert at all. Just saying its part of the puzzle he may not have that others might.

What about a scenario where we keep #9?

But let's assume Whitmore is gone.

You doing that? Who would you take? Probably not enough to move up anyway. But an extra pick down the line or something could make it work.

I'd do that all day... which mean its probably not fair... I'd take Ausar and Wallace or Hendricks if he was there.

I normally agree with you Numberica, but this is a TERRIBLE take. People hate Locke because he is a bad play-by-play guy. Having a nasally whining voice that is annoying is very relevant when your job is your voice. Being a hard worker does not make you good at your job. I appreciate the stats, but that is it. Also, he never says the goddamn score EVER. I can drive all the way home from somewhere and never hear the score.

I legit think the hate he gets (different from legitimate criticism) is a sapling of this country’s deep-rooted tradition of anti-intellectualism and homophobia/misogyny.
“But he’s not a jock and he sounds like a girl/*code word for gay person because the fun words aren’t acceptable to say anymore*!” Neato.

What the **** is this??? I am as left/progressive as they come and this is just beyond silly to try and force that connection.

I don't know if you have ever met him in real life, but Locke is a HUGE ******* and narcissist. I was behind him in security at the airport and he was screaming and berating the employees because he showed up late and was going to miss his flight. This isn't the first time I have seen him be like this in public.

I also, do not like Bolerjack as a play-by-play because he is either a moron or has some sort of cognitive deterioration happening. How can you be a play-byplay and say (multiple times) 'Jaylen with an "L"' or " He throws it down from 3"
Locke had that thing where he fired his Big 12 football pod guy recently too... can't remember all the specifics but the think the guy was reading a racist quote from a coach and used the racist words so that the listeners had context... I believe he was very much calling the coach out or something. It was kind of a ****** thing to do but again... my details are a little fuzzy.

Shades of: Amen Thompson without the athleticism
It was more shades of my unathletic nephew when the ball is passed to him in our family knockout game we play once a year or so.

I'm not an expert, but I think the biggest knock on Whitmore is that you can see a bit of Julius Randall in him. Super talented and skilled, but a little inflexible in his team game. It is why Randall can be all NBA but the Knicks would move him pretty easily if given the chance. His "connectivity" score is low.

I haven't watched Whitmore enough to confirm that, but from what I have read there is concern by some for that reason.

I think it is a pretty large nit pik.
I don't see that at all. I think he struggles with passing but the Randle comp is not really applicable. He's more Jalen Brown or Benny Mathurin. I honestly think he could end up doing some Don/Ant Edwards type stuff.... assuming things workout for him. If not maybe his medium outcome is like a modern day Corey Magette type.

The one thing that made me understand Locke is, in one of his podcasts after Donovan was traded, he was saying something about "If we ask Donovan 5 years from now about. . ." Then he off-hand commented that it was likely he would never speak to Donovan again.

That actually hit me. Dude loves himself some Donovan Mitchell, everything about Donovan, ostensibly worked beside him for years, and they aren't acquaintance enough for Donovan to come by and say "Hi" before a game? And the fact that Locke is sure enough about that to say it?

At first I was like "Wow, Donovan sucks." But lately I realized that Locke has as much connection to the actual team as the accountant, or the charter plane pilot. He is employed by the Jazz, but isn't really a part of the Jazz like Hot Rod was or maybe Booner is. Part of that is likely because he never played.

Working for the Jazz is awesome and a dream, however it is less than most assume and I think that perhaps contributes to Locke's angst.

Not my observation, but I think it is the principal complaint against him, and I don't think it is something you can suss out in a workout.

I agree he isn't a passer.. don't think he is a huge ball stopper like Randle though. His game isn't like Randle's at all... especially in college.

That's accurate.

I think the Jazz would do that if they really believe in Jarace Walker or Taylor Hendricks. Then they'd take the guard of their choice at #9, whether that's Black, Bufkin, Hood-Schifino, Dick or possibly Coulibaly.

I now think Coulibaly is hyped to the point that Washington takes him, ensuring his demise. That is the most Wizards thing ever. They are the one team that should just take the layup.

Ant is who Cam makes me think of. Though an even better physical profile. Ant is 6 foot 4 and 225 lbs. Cam is 6 foot 7 and 232 pounds.

BTW I was watching some Cam porn just now and saw that he is only 18 years old. I was unaware. Could he still grow a bit more? I just like him more and more. Get him Ainge
