2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I think Ausar/Walker/Black are the most likely guys to be there at 9. I think Portland ends up sliding back to 6 and takes Black. Maybe they do the Ingram deal instead but the Carter Jr., 6, 11 for 3, 23, Nurkic deal seems pretty fair to me. Portland then uses 11 to pursue other deals. Just feels like Portland needs a few pieces not just one big one.

I’m going to go ahead and book Hendricks to Indiana at 7… feels like a lock. 8 is a wild card but I think they also look pg and not sure a new GM wants to get too wild for his first pick… so could see Thompson sliding. I just think the nba GMs get a little risk averse on draft night and those guys are coming in from a new route and will likely get dinged because of it.
I’m getting this gut feeling Ausar is our guy at 9, but I haven’t heard much about the twins workouts for teams in our range.

Athletic, scores, rebounds, assists, defends, and can play multiple positions

I’m still not sure if your unrivaled undying love for Black is an act honestly,.. hahaha..

It’s not… all I’ve heard from everyone during the season is man we really need someone like Lonzo/Giddey/Haliburton, etc. Who is the closest player to them in this draft?

Secondly, what exactly does Ausar do better than Black?

Unlikely both are available at 9 so kind of a moot question for me.

I'd be happy with either, I think, if one is available at 9.

I think Washington could move Beal to the Heat. He has a no trade clause so they will get less for him and they will have to pick a place he want to be. I think Black is a pretty good fit with Herro (who would definitely be involved in the trade). Dame could be the guy but his passive aggressive comments aren't going to force the Blazers hand. Herro, Lowry or Robinson, picks for Beal is my prediction... and I think the Wiz will draft with this possibility (or reality) in mind.

I think Beal to Philadelphia is also a possibility.

I think his athletic burst/twitchy movement is (much) better and he’s demonstrated he can thrive off the ball. Neither of their shots are good currently, but gun to my head, I think Ausar shoots with more confidence.

The thing that concerns me is if Black’s shooting doesn’t come around that he is a non-factor off the ball. I like that Ausar has already done well there (while also having some good instincts/chops as a ball-mover in both primary and secondary actions).

Lastly, the only thing that compares with Halliburton/Alonzo/Giddey is that Black is big and is an on-ball player. I see no evidence they are comparable as passers/floor generals. Halliburton is also a deadly shooter so I think that is especially worth pumping the brakes on.

I could see that.. might depend on how Wiz view Herro. Philly only has one pick to offer and I would not trade Maxey if I was them.

Athleticism? Explosiveness? Speed?
The quickness that a player gets off the floor or their first step is something the combine doesn’t (can’t?) measure. So what you get are a lot of weird athletic testing info that doesn’t actually apply like Grayson Allen being an explosive athlete but you never really ever see it in a game.

Black’s measured athleticism and his functional athleticism doesn’t match up to me. What I see is that he needs to load up to get that burst and that fraction of a second can mean a lot. He can get up with enough time but the quickness is probably more important most of the time to my eyes and that quickness is honestly something I just don’t see that with Black.

But none of us know how any of this translates.

I definitely think we are dangling 16/28 to move up. Not sure I buy Bilal at 9.
Stein is probably most tied into Dallas... wonder if he knows there is some dialogue between us and Dallas. Seem like pretty natural trade partners. Maybe 16/28 for 10 and we take McGee's deal?
