2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I like a lot of players in this draft, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't live up to the hype. 4-5 of the top 10 players didn't play college ball, and so it's difficult to get accurate reads on them. Then there are a ton of Freshman who didn't win anything or put up amazing numbers or anything at the college level. There is a lot of context to all of that, but it could be something we look back at and realize we were overrating these guys.

The other thing is many of the top rated high school players have gotten injured or disappointed. Like if you look at the ESPN top 100 high school players for previous drafts they usually have at least 4-5 of the top draft picks in the top 10. This year the highest rated players expected to go in the top 10 are Brandon Miller who was 9th and then Jerace Walker who was 10th.

There are also very few upperclassman. So while the freshman class may be disappointing, there are also very few upperclassman that exceeded them. Bufkin may be the only upperclassman drafted in the lottery.

Because of what exactly? They need all the help they can get. Paul likely gets bought out. If not I would want to draft a guard for him to mentor for a year.
Because they can just focus on who they think the best player is. They are going to be tanking. There is no possibility of a build around Porzingis/Beal anymore.

It was always the smart move to get off his deal and they took the first offer they got imo. CP3 is only under contract on a partial this season, and the following season is not guaranteed at all. I expect if they do tank it will be the 2nd half of the season after they have turned around and sent CP3 to a contender in Feb. But it also would not surprise me if they continue the treadmill with CP3 the next 2 seasons while staying late lottery play in range never really tanking.

They are going to waive and stretch CP3 I would assume unless they can find a trade partner.

That’s true. Kuzma might be leaving as well. They are in really rough shape. Don’t have very many pieces at all.
they are no worse than they were in fact getting off Beals massive deal was the entire point to adding more assets, and continuing their treadmill ways and never tanking.

Washington waited too long to trade Beal, they should have traded him before the new contract. That is why the Jazz were so smart to trade Rudy and even DM when they did. They got several first round picks and some young players while Washington is getting just a bunch of second round picks and a washed up CP3. Now you understand why some franchises suck every year. As far as the draft goes, they need help in so many places it is hard to predict who they will pick.

I would say the Wizards trade makes it more likely they take Ausar/Amen if they are available at 8 than if they were going into the season with an idea of keeping Beal/Porzingis.
I think as soon as the front office changed over they were always a wildcard… could see them go any direction.
