2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Intel from Givony and Woo:

Amen looks like the front runner for 4. His floor is 6 to the Magic.

Intel shifted in Detroit in the past couple of days following Whitmore’s workout. They may look in a different direction such as taking Jarace or trading down. They’re high on JHS, Dick, Hendricks and Wallace. Just like last year when they came away with two elite prospects it’s possible they could do it again possibly with trading down to 9/16.

Ausar’s range is 6-11. Orlando, Washington and Utah are seen as his most likely landing spots.

Black is in the mix for 6. He went back to Washington for a second workout over the weekend.

Indiana wants Jarace at 7 and if he goes 5 they could explore trading down.

Hendricks range is from 5-12.

Bufkin is viewed as a dark-horse pick at 8.

Where Whitmore is picked will heavily influence how the rest of the lottery plays out. He has been getting positive feedback in some places and struggling with his shooting in others.

Nobody has gotten eyes on more prospects over the pre-draft process than Utah.

Utah is considering packaging 9/16 to move up to 5/6/7.

Utah is also considering using either 16/28 to move up while taking back a bad contract such as to 10 while taking back Davis Bertans from Dallas.

Utah has been linked to Jarace for much of the pre-draft process but would likely have to move up past Indiana for him.

Dallas is likely going to trade their pick at 10 but if they keep it Lively and Dick are in play there. If Hendricks fell to 10 he would be in play as well.

Atlanta could potentially move up to 10 to take Lively while sending 15 and Capela to Dallas.

Orlando and OKC are targeting Lively at 11/12 as well.

If Orlando doesn’t select Whitmore at 6 then Dick at 11 looks pretty likely to happen. Lively and Bilal are options at 11 as well.

Bufkin’s range looks to be 8-13.

OKC is interested in Lively and Bilal at 12 while exploring trade down options as well.

Toronto will either pick a shooter like Dick or Hawkins at 13 or a guard like Bufkin, NSJ or JHS.

11/12 seem to be Hawkins ceiling and he likely won’t fall far into the teens.

Utah is among the strongest suitors for Bilal and how the board falls at the top of the lottery will determine how high he goes. He has real fans in Orlando, Washington, Utah and OKC. His inability to workout gives him a fairly wide range from 6-16.

Brooklyn has been active in trade talks including attaching DFS or Royce with 21 or 22 to get to different spots in the draft if they desire.

Keyonte is seen as someone who can fall. His ceiling looks to be 13 to Toronto or 16 to Utah.
Keyonte’s CEILING might be 16? Good gravy?

Fun fact. . . this is probably the last year that a player who is older than Talen Horton-Tucker will be drafted in the first round.

Both Kris Murray and Marcus Sasser (if he ends up being a surprise late 1st rounder) are months older than THT going into their rookie seasons. Jaime Jaquez is only a few months younger than he is.

Trayce Jackson-Davis, Kobe Brown, Seth Lundy and Keyonte Johnson are all about a year older than THT.

Brandon Miller, the Thompson Twins and Maxwell Lewis are all only about two years younger than THT. It still blows my mind how young he is, and how much upside he might still have. I definitely think Danny Ainge is planning to bring him back and see what type of growth Will Hardy and company can get out of him.

Oh ok so they’re not identical in the literal sense then?
They are what is colloquially called "identical twins". This doesn't mean they will have the exact same physical/athletic/mental attributes. Reasons can be genetic AND/OR environmental/developmental. For example, even though they start with the exact same genetic material, even identical twins' genetic code undergoes mutations in the post-zygothic stage of development of the twins. The median is about 14 different mutations per twin pair but some have more than 100 different mutations per pair and only about 10% of identical twins have no genetic difference at all. And this is before the babies are born. Then different experiences and development can result in different physical/athletic profiles. Well... in most cases they are still VERY VERY similar, but not identical.

Wow, are you a biologist?

If Cam falls to #9 that's kinda crazy, and I didn't expect it to come from bad workouts. I thought he would shine in a workout setting, his real weakness is in live games where it takes him 5 seconds to make a decision.

From Jake Fischer:

Utah has been in contact with the Pistons about trading up from Nos. 9 and 16, according to league sources, with rival teams of the belief the Jazz are searching to get above Washington’s eighth pick in order to select Arkansas guard Anthony Black. Utah has also contacted Indiana about trading into the seventh selection, sources said. But the Jazz may need to trade above Orlando — or find a trade with the Magic at No. 6 — to secure a chance at Black. Utah has made guard Collin Sexton available in trade talks around the league, sources said.

So Fischy thinks we are tanking with the Finnisher on the roster? wow that's bad news for retaining our all star. If any of that trash is true Elizah Huge and a couple fanboys will be the only fool left on here complaining about how he will get better it takes time etc. We aint trading up for Black you ****ing loser

Jazz should just give Wizard a call.. if they’re taking Bufkin at 8, then we don’t need to trade up (and give assets to Wizard’s Eastern Conference teams more assets).

Win-win.
Right, I’m sure they’ll tell us exactly who they’re taking.

Am I the only one kind of doubting this report. At least partially... like... I get how he would know we are looking to trade up(other teams telling him that), but how would he know who we are targetting? Ainge doesn't seem like one to leak that type of information.

Givony from ESPN is reporting the same thing but is reporting we may be targeting Jarace.

You don’t know who’s listening on the other side though.
