2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Ya, not bad. Is Bagley any good? What kind of role would he get on the jazz?

He averaged 12/6 in 23 minutes per game. Super injury prone. Went #2 in the 2018 draft. I’d be interested to see him in our system. He’d likely be the backup PF. Makes 12.5M the next two years. For Detroit they get off of his salary and help the logjam of bigs they have.

When you hear he had multiple bad workouts you may pause if you are going to give a player a multi-year contract, especially in a year with so much talent.
Right, but still I would think the teams are most interested to know the mental side of these players as they already know their physical abilities. They want to meet them, talk to them, interview them.

Derrick rose won an nba MVP and dont recall there being injury issues coming out of memphis. Brandon roy was a stud. were there injury issues with him pre draft? Idk. Zion was the number 1 pick and an all star and I dont remember him having injury issues in college (i could be wrong but he was awesome at duke from what I remember) Greg oden was the #1 pick in the draft so I doubt he had injury concerns coming out of college.

Maybe you missed it but I was speaking of dudes who fell in the draft due to injury concerns (like we are discussing with Cam). Oden was the #1 pick and so was zion so they didn't fall due to injury concerns. Zion has been an all star and rose was a league mvp. If Cam becomes an nba all or star or nba mvp then we did a good job by drafting him imo.
I’m not just sticking to whether players have concerns in college.. that’s too narrow for me.

I’m talking about how injuries in general can derail a career..

And so it should definitely be in the equation when considering prospects.

It's pretty obvious what yellow flag means to me. It's a concern, but maybe not the concern that would warrant the typical "red flag" label. Honestly, I don't care about the language. Fact is, if we are in a position to draft Cam there is a reason why he dropped. If he's there at #9, chances are he fell because teems were spooked by his medicals and not because they were spooked about a fake report about his medicals. Not every player that falls due to health concerns ends up being a bad pick, but to brush it off because one guy used some funny words is dumb.

People want the dream scenario where Cam is perfectly healthy and DA pulled off some media magic to make him fall anyways. Sorry, that's just totally unrealistic. If you were actually trying to fake something to get Cam to drop, why would you say he has yellow flag instead of a red flag anyways? Just doesn't make sense at all.
Calm yo *******... we are having some fun jokes with a new draft term. Obviously if we were making the decision we'd take it more seriously. The medical red flag has led to some player falling further than they should, so if it nets us a player further down the draft that shouldn't be available then its likely worth the risk. If it was similar to the red flags I've seen it could range from very concerning to no long term concern. The fact it was like in a weird lower tier is something that we can joke about... its for fun.

Say for instance he has no Meniscus in a knee... well that's a clear red flag. Maybe the thumb didn't heal perfectly and he needs a surgery... I would call that a red flag but maybe that's what it is.

I also think it is full on silly season and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some nonsense here with Detroit... lets look at what they have done... Taylor Hendricks was reportedly in play a week or so ago at #5... yesterday... Jarace was the dude there... today... Givony says Ausar... so they are clearly looking for a trade partner and may be spewing all sorts of nonsense. Say draft night comes and they take Cam... I won't be surprised. I think they could be baiting someone in to moving up because they have no idea who they want and just want one of those guys and to get an asset on top.

We can get the 5 from Detroit and then trade it to Magic for the 6 and 11. The Jazz do it if they really want Black over Jarace. Jazz then have 6, 11, 16, 28.

Then trade 16, 28 for 13. :O

Orlando is not trading 6 and 11 for 5. Even if they did want to it would be 6 and 11 for 5 and 16.

It's not that serious. I'm just saying that if Cam falls to #9, there's some validity to the health terms. He had to fall for some reason. Using a goofy term like "yellow flag" would be the dumbest possible way to fake teams out of drafting him lol. I don't doubt that there's some nonsense going on, but the idea that you would try to fake people out of drafting Cam by saying he has a mild medical is incredibly stupid.

This is the only pick we know is top-10. We most likely don’t have picks next year (and if we do that’s a negative outcome). 2025 doesn’t project to be a great opportunity either. Lauri is slated to be a free agent then.

This is the draft that will make or break this iteration of the build. But sure, let’s just **** around. If we’re ****ing around, let’s just trade Lauri.
Danny Ainge drafted Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum top 3 in back to back drafts. . .

But instead of sitting on his hands and hoping they panned out, he also -

A.) signed 30 year old, 4x All-Star center Al Horford in free agency

B.) signed 26 year old 1x All-Star wing Gordon Hayward (whose career was derailed by a gruesome injury in his first game with the Celtics)

C.) traded for 25 year old 4x All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving

The Jazz might not have the same quality of picks that the Celtics did back in 16/17, but they are LOADED with good assets, cap space and 3 or 4 high quality, young players right now.

Yes I agree that any and every player can get injured at some point in the future.

Lets say his thumb injury didn't heal well and he will need a surgery. Would any team really pass on him because ... he won't be able to play in summer league? IMO the only reason to pass on a player for medical concerns is if this issue is long-term one that will affect his career mid-long term. You are not drafting that player for the next 3-6 months... you are drafting him hopefully for the next 10-15 years...

The problem is not with the teams that actually have his medicals, they can do their own evaluations. But if a team has not received his medicals, it very well might put doubt in their minds and they can use that as tiebreaker with other similarly ranked players.

I just like the idea of the medical report saying something dumb like he has seasonal allergies or he's double jointed in his pinky or something like that and a team going... not red... but yellow.

Wasserman should have just said there maybe be a health concern there... but yellow is the most waffly way to say it I guess. I think there is some concern on Cam... health, game, attitude, etc. Guys that easy to fit and that good as prospects don't fall late for now reason. If its cuz he dogged a couple workouts then I find it hilarious. If I was a draft prospect working out for certain franchises I would half *** that **** too... I ain't trying to grind my way to Charlotte. lol

Lol Cam put on a show in Utah but was subpar in his Detroit workout… coincidence or not?
