I think teams overreact to this stuff... like if Whitehead really goes end of first its crazy to me. There have been examples of even serious red flags like Porter Jr. providing real draft value. There have been guys like Looney that needed a hip surgery that got flagged... prolly a whole bunch more. Just like with Whitehead... the thumb not healing right could tank his value. I think Griffin may have had some flag last year too. I just see it more of an opportunity than a big concern at some point in the draft. With no flags I think Cam is the 4th/5th guy in the draft for me. So 9th works. Whitehead would be late lotto imo without the second surgery... in the 20s its a no brainer. Doesn't always work out but I think it can be overstated.Lets say his thumb injury didn't heal well and he will need a surgery. Would any team really pass on him because ... he won't be able to play in summer league? IMO the only reason to pass on a player for medical concerns is if this issue is long-term one that will affect his career mid-long term. You are not drafting that player for the next 3-6 months... you are drafting him hopefully for the next 10-15 years...
This is a valid point here... I can see the rumor being a concern if he is withholding medicals from certain teams. The problem is not with the teams that actually have his medicals, they can do their own evaluations. But if a team has not received his medicals, it very well might put doubt in their minds and they can use that as tiebreaker with other similarly ranked players.
I’d do that in a heart beat. Why would they want to dump Bagley? I don’t love his contract but it’s not that bad

no thanks. Here is what the Pistons beat writer for The Athletic threw out as a potential trade:
If that’s all the cost is sign me the **** up.
SoooooonIs it draft day yet?
no thanks.
Because it's less likely to face pushback, but it would accomplish the same thing if a team doesn't have his medicals... if you are the GM or medical staff of say... the Pacers... and you don't get his medicals... and 2 days before the draft a respected journalist floats not just that there is a "yellow flag" on his medicals, but that teams are actually going to pass on him because of said "yellow flag", then what would you think? Would you care if the report says "yellow" or "red" flag when he seemingly is dropping(4, 5 and 6 pass on him)? How would you know if he's dropping because of said "yellow flag" that others might know details about but you don't or because HOU, Detroit and Orlando just liked purely basketball wise 2 other prospects better? But if you were trying to put doubt in a team's mind, why would you say yellow flag instead of red flag? Yellow flag is a made up term, but the obvious intention is to say that there's something there but not enough to warrant a red flag. If you were trying to cast doubt in a team's mind you would not try to downplay the injury. If anyone is faking the term "yellow flag" it would be Cam's camp in an attempt to downplay any injury. You guys have it backwards if you think it's fake.
Just think about it. If IND, for example, does not have his medicals....would you try to fake them out by saying there's a serious red flag injury, or would try to fake them out by saying there's a mild injury concern that does not warrant the term "red flag".
who will be there at 5 that definitely won't be there at 9?Why? That’s a minuscule price to move up compared to what others have said.
who will be there at 5 that definitely won't be there at 9?
and
is that guy better than who you might be able get at 9?
iow, you have a bunch of people saying anthony black could be the guy at 5. if ausar or cam slips to 9, is anthony black better than cam and/or ausar?
maybe jarace is the guy at 5 and anthony black slips to 9. is jarace better than anthony black? or cam? or ausar?
Somewhat agree but if there is one specific guy that Ainge and Co. want, then do whatever needs to be done to get him.who will be there at 5 that definitely won't be there at 9?

i'm not giving up an extra first to take a guy who might be there at 9 anyway or to take a lesser player. now, if the jazz have a guy they love and they are sure they won't be there at 9, that's fair - they need to do what they feel is best. but in my own humble opinion, it's a losing move just based on the players involved.
if the guy you take at 5 turns out to be worse than the guy you would have taken at 9. not rocket science. it happens in every draft where guys taken later are better than guys taken earlier. How could we take a lesser player at 5 than what would be available at 9? That makes zero sense.
which of those players is going to be better in 5 years? You get your choice of Black/Jarace/Cam there. Is getting your choice of your guy better than staying at 9 and taking leftovers? Unequivocally yes.

And now the Pacers pass on him too(because of the yellow flag report that you don't know anything about)... and Washington takes someone else too... Now you are the Jazz and you too don't have his medicals... what would you do? Is he dropping because of a real medical concern or because a 2-3 teams didn't have his medicals and preferred to go safer route?
Every one of these guys is nothing but potential. You create a process to help you identify which ones you think are most likely to be successful and then you should aggressively try to acquire them. There’s no way of knowing down the line that the guy you draft (or trade is for) is going to be better or worse than another. You just have to trust your people and your process to help you make the best decisions. Danny Ainge is one of the best executives in the league - maybe even over the past two decades. I haven’t loved every decision he’s made. . . but he has clearly been right much more than he’s been wrong.if the guy you take at 5 turns out to be worse than the guy you would have taken at 9. not rocket science. it happens in every draft where guys taken later are better than guys taken earlier.
