2023 NBA Draft Megathread

It makes the most sense though. Hendricks is the least decorated of the guys considered to be the top prospects. He doesn't have the HS/AAU career to fall back like the others so he drops to 9. Utah has to make a choice between him and Bilal (this is what Thulein said on the pod today as well, but he had Utah taking Bilal).
Many scenarios make sense... its just funny to keep releasing updates... I'd do the same though... his job is to get as many eyeballs as possible. Release more content.

OK, so I'm a little embarrassed about this, but at the risk of seeming obsessed, I looked a little deeper in to the Cason Wallace injury stuff. Mostly, I'm having a hard time understanding how he's seemingly falling in the draft, so wanting to understand a little bit better. I looked through old reports and compared to game logs and some game film. Here is what I found:

- The first injury report was on 1/10 in the game against South Carolina he only played 8 minutes and sat out the second half with back spasms. According to the report this is something he's dealt with for awhile and wears a back brace when on the bench. He played 40 minutes two games before and had a bad game just before, and so my guess is he was affected by his back starting after 12/31.
- He seemingly played through some pain for a couple of games, and didn't play well, but then he looked like himself again for a couple of games and then sprained his ankle on 1/24.
- He played through the sprained ankle and looked bad for a couple of games and then started looking like himself until he reinjured the ankle on 3/1 and had to sit out for a game and then came back for the SEC and NCAA tournament.
- There isn't a lot out there from the draft analysis world on his injury. Only thing I remember hearing was Barlowe talking about Cason's family member saying the back spasms weren't an issue. I'm not seeing any reports from any teams with a red flag after any workouts. I am kind of curious if his canceling a workout earlier had to do with his back acting up, which if that's true, could be a big red flag.
Yes, he played awful in SEC play. Whatever he was dealing with absolutely tanked his shooting

No it was rescheduled... I love where your head is at thought.

Has Black been killing it in workouts or what? Saw in March and he didn’t look 6th pick material to me. His assist to turnover ratio has me concerned. Can you win a series with a guy who can’t shoot in your starting 5? We tried that. It didn’t work.

I think there are two sides to this coin. One one hand if his back spasms are going to affect his career, then that would be a huge concern. I'm not aware of other prospects as young and short as him having back spasms and how it might have affected their career.

On the other hand, if you take his games before the back spasms he was averaging 13ppg, while shooting 46% from the 3 and 50% from the field, with almost 3 steals per game.

Its the Whitehead conundrum too.

Teams love his intangibles, size, and athleticism. Arkansas was so bad offensively it's almost benefitting him because he has built in excuses and teams are using their imagination for what he looks like with NBA spacing.

Kid is an absolute gym rat, wants to work hard and wants to get better. The absolute best type of guy you want. He will be serviceable from 3. He shot extremely well from 3PT range this year.

I knew he was going to rise during the draft process cuz he has one of those personalities and attitudes that everyone loves.

From what I understand Cason cancelled the workout, and then it got rescheduled later.

In one plausible scenario Cason worked out for Washington, had back spasms, decided to rest instead of doing another workout, and then Atlanta came back and asked if he could work out later and he said yes.

The other, maybe more likely scenario, is that he worked out for Washington, it went extremely well and he didn't feel like he needed to workout for Atlanta (probably not a preferred destination for him), and then as the draft intel came in he decided he might fall and should work out for
Atlanta at that point.

yep. the more you watch black the easier it is to like him. dude plays hard and smart. and when you combine that with the size, skill (other than shooting) and athleticism, it's really hard not to like him. but i think you have to watch full games to really appreciate him.

It could also be he felt his range was in the 8-13 range and then Atlanta had a real chance to move up?

Could be anything.
