2023 NBA Draft Megathread

One trade up scenario we haven’t discussed… if Orlando goes Black at 6 they will trade Suggs… I could see Lockes Suggs prophesy being fulfilled… 16/future pick/ KO for Suggs/11/second rounder. I feel like I have Dr. Stranged this draft to death now… just depends if we are on the best timeline or the darkest.

There are two: Wallace and Bufkin.
Ya to me they are most well rounded but the funny thing is that Hendricks was more productive and more efficient and effective than both. Its funny cause hendricks weakness seems to be ball in hand scorer and low usage yet he averaged more points than literally every player we have discussed drafting. Its crazy talk.

Is it wrong for me to start feeling greedy today?

I now want two of the top 9 players. Give me any two of Scoot, Whitmore, Walker, Black, Hendricks and/or a Thompson Twin.

Trade Sexton and a future draft pick if you need to, but now is a great time to make a bold move while other teams are panicking to get their books in order.

And George was reportedly 20 lbs overweight all season. How are you just 20 lbs overweight as a regular sized guard at 19 years old?
Straight from his coach’s mouth - he arrived at Baylor at 235, worked his *** off and at the time of the interview (May) he was down to 200.

I would agree the weight at that age would be a problem if he hadn’t done anything about it, but he did. He’s in great shape and by all accounts has been killing workouts. I’d be thrilled with him at 16.

Suggs is one of the dudes who have sucked *** in the past who I would be willing to bet on.

He still came in at 235

I think he's a bit bigger than Wallace, probably the same size as Bufkin w/ more mass.

I just dont love his playstyle, but it can be super effective if the player is high level at it. He seems like a guy who wants to take hard shots. When he did an interview he said the hardest skill he had to learn to master was hitting shots with a hand in his face. So he thinks he's a master at taking tough shots already.
I'd be shocked if he's as tall as Bufkin. Bufkin is the same height as JHS. At least when I watched the Baylor-UCLA game, he looked noticeably shorter than Jaylen Clark. Maybe Amari Bailey's size at best. (But now I'm just spouting off on stuff none of us could really know.)

I heard it mentioned in passing that Cole Anthony disaffected Suggs’ psyche by being an ******* in his attempt to keep his spot in the pecking order there. Like, from the jump.

IDK, that may make me like Suggs worse? Got to be mentally tough to make it in the NBA and if you're letting Cole Anthony throw you off like that it's questionable.

He’d be in my top ten guesses of “what guy breaks out next season” if he was in a different situation. Suggs is what Black would look like if he starts out as a bust imo. Like if Black had the Suggs injuries it could look kinda similar. Think Black puts more pressure on the rim but Suggs might have more shooting upside. It’s a buy low.

I’m in “quality over quantity” mode right now. I want two top 9 players from this draft. Jazz pick 9 & 16, so it should be reasonable to move up and get someone. Jazz should try to walk away from this draft with two potential franchise players. The chaos today is going to be unprecedented.

Same. But I’m of the opinion that the way to find quality, since the draft is a crapshoot, is by giving yourself as many chances as possible. Hence I stay put unless I could turn 28 + Sexton (or something like that) into a top 15 pick. Still have three picks but all in the top half of the draft.

So what are some good weaknesses to have? Poor shooter, poor defender, poor ball handler? What are the good weaknesses you are looking for in a player?
There are plenty of guys with supreme athleticism and shooting that just can’t do more than being a low end role player. If you want to be high end you need to have a feel for the game playmake not just a one dimensional shooter/slasher. The only reason I have him as high as he is is for athleticism and defense and shooting. I’m not sold on him having anything in between his ears.
