2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I actually watched the OTE Finals, all 3 games. I dont think many people did because the talk around it would have been completely different. I think people just saw some early OTE clips (some off an exhibition game lmfao) and based their opinion off that.

So what are some good weaknesses to have? Poor shooter, poor defender, poor ball handler? What are the good weaknesses you are looking for in a player?
There are some weaknesses that are "better" than others. Needing to add more muscle, age, experience, etc. aren't really negatives as much as just considerations. Some skills are also easier to work on then others. Ex: Defense and rebounding are more about effort and anticipation than anything else. Shooting, for some odd reason, seems to be something teams are willing to accept more of as a risk/weakness despite the fact that it seems to be the hardest to develop.

I mean, he’s at the top of the draft ecosystem that incentivizes hype far and away above criticism so I’m not sure just how seriously we should take that.
And there are two facts (Cy hates it, but he always hates the truth if it doesn’t fit his narrative) givony or cy or anybody can’t explain away:

1) this is in fact a HS league - the players are anywhere from 15 to 20. That’s HS age. It’s a simple fact.

2) when the second best team in OTE played the #14 ESPN ranked HS team in the country, they lost by 14 and were down by 25 at one point. These are just facts.

Yes, they have length, talent and athleticism, but at the end of the day they are HS kids and the Thompsons were 20 playing in a HS league. People can justify it how they want but those are the facts of the case.

I watched all of two of those games. Everything you’ve said about length, talent and athleticism is true. That doesn’t change the fact they are HS kids. Montverde Academy also has a ton of length talent and athleticism- they are also HS kids. And the Thompsons were 20 playing in a HS league. Take from that what you will, but it isn’t hating, it’s the truth.

Same. But I’m of the opinion that the way to find quality, since the draft is a crapshoot, is by giving yourself as many chances as possible. Hence I stay put unless I could turn 28 + Sexton (or something like that) into a top 15 pick. Still have three picks but all in the top half of the draft.
Yep, more bites at the apple gives more chances to land that franchise dude. We have seen too many early dudes bust and too many late dudes land (jimmy butler and jokic just took their teams to the finals) for me to feel confident that less picks but higher picks will equal better players.

There are plenty of guys with supreme athleticism and shooting that just can’t do more than being a low end role player. If you want to be high end you need to have a feel for the game playmake not just a one dimensional shooter/slasher. The only reason I have him as high as he is is for athleticism and defense and shooting. I’m not sold on him having anything in between his ears.
That one dimensional shooter/slasher averaged more points per game than all these many dimensional dudes. That you never mention btw.

If the Jazz stays at 9, Washington will break our hearts with whomever they pick.
Once the Wiz draft someone I immediately think they are a bust so won’t break my heart… lol.

I’m a lazy typer didn’t want to, besides I’m sure you can think of some. Lots of guys like that thrive in college all the time. Dime a dozen.
If you actually looked at the guys stats you’d realize how incredibly dumb it is to say dime a dozen. His combo of dunks threes and blocks is quite the opposite.
