The thing is….if Lauri is not touching the ball (or at least in a position to score) it’s not necessarily because we stopped passing it to him. It’s probably because our ball handers can’t break down the defense in the first place.

The modern game isn’t really about getting guys the ball in the right spots. It’s about breaking down the defense and getting them into rotation. Lauri feasts on bearing the defense in rotation, he’s not really a guy you give the ball to and let him go to work.

Someone like Morris will make passes that Sexton can’t/won’t, but Sexton will also cut the defense and create opportunities for Lauri that Morris cannot.

BTW we should absolutely go after Morris if he could be had for cheap. I’m just saying that the key skill for someone like Lauri isn’t passing as much as it is being able to beat the defense off the dribble.
I think you are over simplifying a bit. It also isn’t as much about Lauri as Kessler and Collins will need pick and roll partners looking to set them up. You can also break down the defense and still commit turnovers or not have guys in the right spots etc. and have things go sideways. I think Sexton can masquerade as a pg but you’ll need an organizer to mix in with the group… whether that is a pg or a good passer at another position. If you want to unlock these guys that aren’t necessarily ball in hand guys then you will need to have someone a bit more cerebral than Sexton… at least for what Collin has shown this far. I’d give him a chance… but if we could have Morris for a couple seconds we should jump on that. He also may be a guy that can be retained at a reasonable price.

It matters some. I get what you're saying, but it matters. At this stage, if the ballhandler isn't moving it then those guys aren't getting decent shots since none of them are playmakers. Like, what Lauri did last year despite not being very good on the ball and having shaky guard play (or rotation) is mind-blowing. All of our player capital is invested in forwards and bigs that rely on their guards making stuff happen that they can play off of.
Sexton drew double teams quite a bit in Cleveland and still got a lot of mid range pull ups to drop, so even if teams trap him he can score. Him at the point here, could work better than it did when he had to share with a better pg like Garland though so maybe he can suprise some people in that regard.
I think he is a 6 but has the ability to handle running plays and getting the wings and bigs involved better than most assume.

I don’t think it’s oversimplifying to say that there are more ways to create opportunities for Lauri. I actually think it’s too simplistic to put too much weight on the floor general stuff. The organization/floor general stuff does matter….but so does the ability to put pressure on the defense. The other benefit of Lauri besides Lauri is his gravity, and having someone who can take advantage of that is important.

Even for a guy like Morris, his threat as a scorer matters. If he was a Ben Simmons level shooter and not an elite mid range guy it would make life a lot harder for him and his teammates.

Sexton definitely has a lot to improve as a passer and playmaker. I think his overdribbling is probably a bigger issue than his passing ability tbh. But his ability to put pressure on the defense was really good and IMO it’s the most important thing to have next to a guy like Lauri.

I don’t stress too much about positions and could not care less about the labels. Sexton+Lauri is a good combo and potential great if Sexton can make some improvements.

Bruh, that's the role you play on this board.....a guy that looks around and sees who needs to get going and who hasn't been replied to.
You don’t know **** about ball boy, take a coffee break. And by coffee break I mean bring me my coffee.

No one is really discussing how the new CBA is going to change things but the league and how teams build rosters is going to be drastically different.
It's really going to level the playing field and team that could manage their finances could end up getting quality talents from team trying to get under the luxury tax.

It doesn't really matter to me if Sexton utilizes the spacing to create his own scoring opportunities as long as he's efficient, he was very efficient last year. What's most important is that he's able to utilize the spacing to break down the defense, doesn't matter too much if it ends up in a pass to a teammate or a bucket for himself.
Ya honestly if he averages 1 assist per game or 10 doesn't really matter if we are outscoring our opponents while he is on the floor and we are winning games. From what i remember last year season, our team played quite well when sexton was starting. That is what is important.

I think the problem with sexton right now is his double hamstring and I’m guessing that’s why they put him on the trade block. Probably also the reason why we drafted 2 SGs as clarkson is likely to opt out. If he’s gonna miss time then he’ll miss growth. Pointless to keep this going.
