2024-2025 Tank Race

I mean, they effectively have traded a bunch of vets by just not playing them for long stretches. I'd expect some of them to get moved, can't imagine Collins/Clarkson/sexton are happy.
That's the point though. They didn't trade anyone. They did the right thing and properly tanked like they should have the last couple years rather than half assing it.

I want to agree with you, but there are too many signs that next year could be a tankjob, too.
Definitely could be. But without Lauri, Sexton, Collins there would be no could about it. Because we have retained them, and lost just as much as if we traded them probably, next year has the option to be pretty good.

UTA loses by 15
WAS loses by 22
BKN loses by 14
TOR wins/NOP loses by 9
CHA loses by 5

The good news is we have gained a lot of ground on Toronto/Charlotte lately. The Bad news is that Brooklyn has entered the tank race in a real way.

Kinda like an episode of “The Blacklist”, 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

*sigh*

Blazers are kind of out of the premium tank race.
Ya I haven't been worried them for a long time.
I also stopped worrying about Detroit or Philly and if Zion and McCollum stay healthy and on that team and in the lineup then I'm done worrying about the pelicans too.
The tank is going really well. My prediction is that we finish 3rd or 4th behind the wizards and one or two of Charlotte or New Jersey.

I don't trust New Orleans at all to win enough. Nope.

Brooklyn is 4 wins ahead, so we have a bit of time before any direct worries from them. But yeah, they could pose a challenge by season's end.

Damn

Pelicans scored 136 points and lost by 1

We're now at least 5 games in the win column behind all teams not in the bottom 4.

This means we're in pretty good shape if you insist on having the best odds for the top players.

I preferred that Toronto won since I don't have a lot of hope in catching Washington. I think I preferred that Brooklyn won since I think their end of season tank will be much stronger than Charlotte.

I wonder how the standings could effect the trade deadline? Maybe the FO feels pretty confident in our ability to stay bottom 3 and doesn't worry about trying to get worse.

Yeah, not quite sure what the FO thinks, but some tankers believe we should stand pat at the trade deadline and keep Sexton, Collins, and Clarkson. They say it’s been going well so far so why worry. That’s a risky route to take imo. Still 37 games left, and teams will be tanking even harder down the stretch. Could lead to a major letdown on draft night. And in any case, I would trade them. When I picture our next contending team, I don’t want us to have short guards who can’t defend. That’s why I don’t want us to keep Sexton. Hanging onto Collins and Clarkson doesn’t make sense either. We pivoted and brought in many young players, and more coming in from the draft. I think we’re at least 3-4 years away from being a contender (probably even if we added a star player now). And another reason is that I want us to tank for the 2026 draft as well.
