What's new

2024-2025 Tank Race

The next 3 games are probably the most important remaining games. It would be fairly easy to go on a 3 game winning streak right here.

I would say best case we can realistically hope for is 1-2.
What’s the downside to fielding a g-league equivalent team in the 2 games against the Wizards?

We KNOW what we need to do.

I just don’t get why we don’t just do it.

Jazz lose by 28
WAS loses by 16
CHA loses by 18
At this point in the race I'm happy with every teams result as long as the jazz get a loss.
Doesn't even upset me to see the other tankers lose if the jazz also lose. I used to hate to see the other tankers lose but the jazz are doing such a great job that I'm much more comfortable seeing other tankers lose now.

I'm super happy with 3rd worst record. I have been feeling like 3rd worst is the lucky spot for Cooper Flagg all season long.

Btw, I'm one of the biggest Stephen King fans in the world (at list count I had read about 60 of his novels and have read many of them multiple times) and Flagg is a prominent character in many of his books. It is destiny for my favorite sports team to get a player named Flagg.

If there is ever a star player named Roland then we getting him too

Not really.
Doesn't bottom 3 have the best odds at the number 1 pick?

Like finishing 5th worst has worse odds at Flagg than finishing 3rd worst, right?

I want the best odds possible at Flagg so finishing 3rd worst vs 5th worse definitely matters a lot to me.

Ending up with the 2nd pick vs the 5th pick doesn't really matter to me and I think that is actually what Cy was talking about.

If you're resigned to Cooper or bust, I'd get not even caring about 2nd or 3rd with New Orleans, but staying bottom 3 had pretty massive effects on our odds of getting Cooper.
I thought Cy was saying that he doesn't care much between getting the #2 pick or the #5 pick.

I think he cares as far as final season record. For that I'm guessing he wants to finish in the bottom 3 worst record and that does matter to him.

The league investigating and Silver giving our pick to the Lakers as punishment? With our luck I wouldn't even be that surprised.

Watch us draft Roland Flagg from North Alaska Community College with the 57th pick next year...

Ya you would have to ask the pelicans why they played Zion and McCollum against the jazz.

Apparently it's not as easy as you and I think it is.

Not really.
1/2/3 is 14%
4 is 12.5%
5 is 10.5%

Always small odds, but if you're willing to spend a year being slimy than the 33% increase in odds for 3rd vs 5th is definitely meaningful

But yeah, I get it if he meant that he doesn't care about ending up with #2 vs #5 in actual draft picks. I am over the moon about Flagg

Just to be clear, the post I responded to said "significantly" better odds. The difference in odds between the 2nd and 5th worst teams for the number one pick is only 3.5%. I don't consider that to be significant. That said, of course we want the best odds.

I’ve said it, imo they’re showcasing them for the offseason trade.

But why focus on other teams? We got to take care of our own business.

I don't think 3.5% is that significant. Of course I want the best odds possible though.

I agree with the post right above yours.
It's significant to me to the point that I would be pretty upset to finish at 5th now. I wouldn't just shrug my shoulders. I would feel like we failed these last 20 games or so.

As far as getting the 5th picks vs 2nd 3rd or 4th..... Ya I don't really care about that.

Has this ever happened?

The Wizards are having a historically bad year and the e’s currently no punishment.
They are playing khris Middleton and Marcus smart each night though.
They are playing their best players.

OK, I disagree, but not that big of a deal.

I think Harper is a significantly better prospect than the others, so getting top two is pretty important to me. I also think there is a significant drop off after 6, so securing top 6 is a big deal to me. Those are bigger deals for winning the tank race than 3.5% better odds at Flagg.

IF Flagg was the only player I thought was worth getting in this draft it would be hard to stomach watching 20 more games of horrible basketball and then having to endure the off season, for 3.5% better odds of something good happening.
