2024-2025 Tank Race

I left on a trip to Argentina for a week and missed a bunch of games. Just caught up. I was concerned watching them in close succession because we had the Wizards, a slumping Grizzlies team, the 76rs, amongst other "easier" teams.

Now that I caught up and we went 0 - 7 or should I say 7 - 0, I am stoked.

Jazz - Wiz Wednesday night. Biggest game of our season.

Must-lose game at the crib.

Can we pull off the L? After just getting fined for sitting everyone alive a few weeks back?

I honestly think we can chill on the tanking aggressiveness. And if the last two games are any indication, we probably don’t have to pull too much **** to lose most games.

Beginning to think that the Jazz either think that there's a super-big difference between the 5th and 6th best prospects in the class or they're paranoid that they'll somehow start winning and fall to 4th or (who knows how, at this point?) even 5th in the lotto odds.

I think it's just that Collins actually got injured and he's been a huge part of the Jazz not being terrible in games.

Hardy telling Kessler to jack up threes is just so weird at this point, we secured the tank and the Jazz organization just seems furious that anyone would dare question them throwing so many games. Just stunt after stunt after stunt.

Ainge is probably too powerful to blackball, but Zanik and Hardy getting blackballed Hinkie style doesn't seem off the table.

There’s just no real benefit to doing something besides tanking hard.
This. We have come this far, might as well tank our asses off and finish this **** with the worst record.

Would be funny if we locked up the worst record with 2 games to go and then we play all our best players and give 100% effort and we beat the thunder and t-wolves to finish the season. I would love that.

I just looked our schedule and it's a pretty hard one. If we can somehow lose to the wizards again and lose to Charlotte then we will finish last. Other than those 2 we have:
Celtics
Cavs
Grizzlies
Rockets
Nuggets
Rockets
Pacers
Hawks
Blazers
Thunder
Wolves

Kessler always wanted to jack up 3’s, it’s well known and not a secret. You must have been under a rock if this is new to you. It’s not like Hardy is demanding him to shoot them, but he’s now allowing Kessler to do what he always wanted.

I was always anti-allowing Kessler to shoot 3’s because 1) he sucks at it badly and 2) his biggest problem as a young player was being soft and trying to be a perimeter player was detrimental to his development.

But Kessler has put in the work this year. I am no longer worried about him being soft and I think he’s earned the right to expand his game, which is great for all parties. I have no delusions about him ever becoming a 3 point shooter, but being out there does allow him to develop other skills like his dribble handoff, short roll, and drives like you saw last night.

As long as he approaches the game with the right mentality and remembers that he’s a big man first this is a great situation. It absolutely nukes our offense, but I think Kessler is in a mental spot where we can afford to let him develop in this time where development should be a way higher priority than winning.

I wonder how many of the next 13 games we win.

On a 10 game losing streak, Pistons have the longest streak in NBA history at 28. 23 losses in a row would be tied for 6th longest in NBA history.

Yeah. Some folks here seem to think we're tanking too hard. It's like they think the Jazz are doing something other teams haven't done in their tanking efforts in the past. Not true. Also, we are currently the youngest team in the NBA with no defense. We’ve got to floor it until the very end.

DET is another good reminder that "losing culture" is only a thing until it isn't. A winning culture is just a team with good talent.
This has always been my feeling. I don't buy into culture being big factors much.
I think if you have good players you win and if you don't you lose

I mean, if we fire Will Hardy afterwards too, maybe this comparison will work.

I have to imagine the reason no one plays hard on this team is because Will Hardy is trying to throw games and I don't know if a coach can flip the switch back to respectability.

I think the same principle applies to the coach. A good coach is a good coach and this "winning culture" thing really doesn't mean much. Time will tell if Hardy actually good or not, but if he fails it won't be because this franchise decided to throw games intentionally. I don't think less of TOR's coach because he has been throwing games intentionally (more than Hardy even). As with the players who are in a "losing culture", it becomes a complete afterthought down the line. Nobody cares that OKC's coach was there when they didn't care to win. The players got better and in large part the players got better inside of a supposed "losing culture". Hardy and Rajakovic are no different from prospects in the sense that if that they will fail or succeed based on their ability and not because of a culture of losing.

I would also say that generally our issues don't have as much to do with us playing hard but simply that they guys we have out there aren't good. I worry about Hardy's ability to teach defensive principles, but I don't really believe in a coach willing his team to play hard and scrappy. These guys playing for their NBA careers are often playing as hard as anyone, but again, that's just a reflection of talent not culture.

I'm getting that weird, excited, nervous feeling usually reserved for big playoff games. Tanking is fun! If we win the tank battle and lose out on Cooper I'm definitely flying to wherever the NBA headquarters is and wasting expensive eggs.
The cost of eggs may keep rising

Might aswell buy for It now If that's the plan

Mostly agree (and certainly do for Detroit). Maybe the counter example is the Hornets? Seems (from the outside) that they usually have more talent than their record shows.
