2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

We have absolutely no way of knowing they want to get "lots of value" out of Sexton. That's just you guessing.

It's more likely that they simply haven't found any takers.
Your lack of self-consciousness is astounding. Tell me, how have you been able to learn about the market (or lack thereof) for our players?

Perhaps I'm wrong, but wouldn't the Jazz have been required to release someone (turned out to be JHS) to have enough roster spots to complete the Schroeder/Martin trade?

Then, I assume, they decided to just let Richardson go in favor of an open roster spot?

(So there was no way to avoid releasing JHS to complete today's trade, unless they had released someone else already on the roster, such as Svi).

I think they only *had* to release one of JHS/Richardson. I'm guessing they will do the sign a bunch of guys to 10 days contracts thing with the open spot they created

Thought you had to have sufficient roster space for whatever players are incoming in order to complete a trade before you make it. If the JHS trade was already official, then they had 15 and couldn't make the Martin trade official before releasing one of the 15.

Or am I wrong about this?

No idea

I think you're correct.

I made the argument a couple of weeks ago that maybe it's time to think about evening out the lottery odds to further discourage tanking, using the reasoning that it's harder under the current CBA for big markets to just buy their way to the top than it used to be. There are a lot more constraints to just compiling top talent through free agency and players just forcing their way to preferred markets than there used to be.

I'm wondering if we can regard the incredibly busy trade deadline this season as evidence for this? (Even the Luka trade was not about players forcing their way to a preferred destination.) Trading is becoming increasingly important as a way to keep in line with the CBA's monetary policies and/or find value in the circulation of players around the league.
