2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Like if Cody didn't look like the worst player in the league and Taylor had shown some real steps/promise instead of breaking his leg I could get much more hopeful I suppose. Key looks like he may have taken a step after a slow start but he needed to take a leap to help accelerate the timeline. Its looking more like a 2-3 year tank which means go ahead and sell off what you need to to make sure you are bottom 4-5 for a few years.

Yup...outside of the initial Gobert/Mitchell trades, the only thing that has really gone right is the moves around the margin. Dunn, Simone, Juzang, Svi, Eubanks, even Potter. That's great, but a few years late when that would have made massive impact. I wouldn't say the draft has gone horribly, but it needed to go extremely well (I suppose it still can with lotto luck) to build with Lauri in mind. If we hit on the lotto, I would be OK with trying to trade for a second star and then we might be in business. I think it's fine to go either direction. If we do not have lotto luck, I would look at trying our luck again in 2026 and likely moving Lauri. Not only does Lauri pose risk to our tank, but if we keep putting him in the worst situation possible to succeed there's a lot of downside risk to keeping him on that contract. One bad year is fine, two off years and suddenly you've got to worry about how that massive contract is perceived.

Just sucks that the trade market is going to be so rough for us to get real value on guys. DA hates missing out on bargains... can you imagine how much anxiety medicine it will require to sell off parts at a discount?

I'm not sure how much upside/downside there is to keeping parts of the infrastructure through this year. If we sell off Sexton can we move from #5 to #3... what if it requires Sexton and Kessler to make that "jump"?

Now that Key is back I think we will stop cutting it so close/winning games we should be losing. Its not that he sucks its just how things get placed in his absence and that he still isn't a big positive on court most nights. We have a **** ton of important games coming up the next 30 days or so... some tendinitis would be great right now.

Statistically, Lauri is having his worst Jazz season, but the difference isn't huge – considering his usage % has dropped, the team around him is absolutely horrible and he's even more a #1 target for defenses than before. I presume he'll finish the season pretty much at his career averages, if not better.

I mean the guy is averaging 20/6.5/2 as we speak. Hardly a disaster on an individual level, but it's obvious Lauri has been something of an "empty stats" guy this season. Teams have absolutely noticed that and it probably gives them some pause. With a max deal, his trade market may not be there in the offseason even if we decide to go that route.

We will see if the market is dry. I think Brooklyn was just desperate to get worse. When it gets closer to the deadline teams will have to decide if they want a chance at a ring.

Yeah if that is the plan then everything should go lol. 2 years is a stretch with Lauri and Collin. I could see Lauri being okay with it as he gets the shine as the max guy and has a young family that likes it here but I think you have to remove Collin and maybe Walker to accomplish a 3 year tank with Lauri.

This is exactly why I was saying when are we planning on doing the inevitable Laurie Markannen trade this summer? I saw and read the same locked on jazz podcast everyone’s talking about and it makes sense. He talked about how Boston took four years for Jaylen and Tatum to become what they are , and if you take the next three years for our draft picks to hopefully get two out of three and add four years to the middle of that you’re looking at 2031 for competition. Lowry will be aged out as will almost anyone age 25 or older. We need to trade these guys now and get younger prospects or draft picks that we can use to fill in the voids after picking our next young guys in the next three picks over the next three years.
Ainge and the Jazz have known this all along. Markannen was intended to be worth more on a five-year contract then on an expiring.

Kings are losing to a Mavs team without Luka or Kyrie at home.

They definitely going to be a seller

I hate to be that guy, but with Ivey out for the year Sexton is an awesome fit there in DET.
With the pick they already owe it gets a little tricky to send a pick. You thinking a straight sexton Ivey type swap... contracts added for matching?

They have Toronto's 2nd this year, maybe that and like 3-4 other seconds they own in 2029-2031? We don't need more picks this year but you can recycle that pick on draft night really easily.

They are probably not cruel enough to trade Ivey right now. I'm not exactly sure what might be coming back, but even though I've been saying that Sexton won't get a first I would say that DET is a team that seems most likely. Maybe a protected first in 27 or beyond. Sexton does seem like a "5 second round picks" candidate as well.

The Pistons have a ton of cap space, so I think they can match salary with just a couple minimum guys....or they can go Simone/Hardaway. It has not been the best year for Simone. We just revive him and trade him for a late first again lol.

I also saw some people throwing out Sasser....

Sasser re-routed in a three team deal might be helpful to a team strung out by the cap. They have Toronto's second this year and some good ones (maybe) in like 2028-2031 ish.

Don't think we can re-acquire Simone this year... might have to wait right until the deadline if so. Part of the benefit of selling low on Sexton is having more opportunities to lose games... so I'd want to do it sooner than later.

I'm probably way overrating Carter, but now that he is healthy I think he might be the best chance the Kings have at winning games. If his defense is as disruptive as it was in college, he would help that team a lot.

Is there a minimum number of games to win ROY? If Carter starts playing and completely turns around the Kings season would he have a chance at ROY?

Nah, Edey has it on lock as long as he stays healthy.

I actually think picks would make more sense coming from the Kings. The reason why John Collins makes a lot of sense there is that their balanced is way tilted towards guards/backcourt. If they don’t make a move, Carter Jr doesn’t even have much playing time if any at all available to them. Huerter and Keon Ellis are their best bench guys, but they are also playing Fox/Monk a ton of minutes so not a lot of PT available.

The soft spot in their rotation is the backup 4/5 minutes which are going to a combo of Lyles, Len, and McDermott which is horrible. If they move Huerter for Collins, they can now have Ellis, Carter Jr, and Collins as their bench pieces which makes more than what they currently have.

If it’s Carter Jr we desire in a trade, I’d expect we send back Svi/Juzang and SAC hopes they can be a bench player for them alongside Ellis and John Collins.

The Kings could desire Svi/Juzang in any event that they trade Huerter. Eubanks could also be considered a potential upgrade in a lower stakes deal.

im sorry i dont watch a lot of kings basketball is hueter better than collins? collins has been pretty good this year so unless im getting picks, or young players with potential why trade. maybe carter?
