2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Phoenix isn't going to do anything until they figure out what is going on with Butler. That seems to be at an impasse at the moment.
They are screwed. This is likely indeed plan A but who is taking Beal? Pistons are really their only hope and Beal already said no cold cities. Being a dick to him to force him to leave is not really the route to take. He has all the control here.

Jimmy is screwed here too. He way overplayed his hand. No FA destinations out there... write off every team except 1. Cost yourself a bunch in fines while tanking your value for any team that might think "we could ride that wave for a year or two". I think they find no takers and he opts in and gets moved this summer.

For Jimmy it might be Philly... and that might be in the offseason.

The problem is he's on my fantasy team, so I suggest he gets his **** together and starts playing ball.

Yeah. Some three team type deal. Supposedly Warriors calling on PG right now. Jimmy has just made it almost impossible and Beal's no trade makes it literally impossible.

why would any team trade for pj Tucker when they know they can get him for free when we buy him out he is worth nothing in a trade

Nurkic has another year on his deal and it saves the Suns a bajillion dollars in tax payments.

There is some rumbling that the Suns are exploring KD trades. If the Suns can't get a Butler deal done, I'm wondering if that then triggers KD to ask to be moved to a better situation. I wouldn't put it past him. He just did this in Brooklyn.

The lakers trying rebuild around luka will not work he can not handle the pressure of being the main man on a team in Dallas it looked like he carried most of the load also he complains to refs all the time Kyrie Irving and klay Thompson did not help much it’s doom to failure

There isn’t one. It happens when it happens. Stockton and Malone were drafted in the 84 and 85 drafts then it took 11 years to make the finals. I’m not It for the playoffs, I want championship contention. So there is no timeline.
If the timeline is indeterminate, that would tend to suggest that the Jazz didn't "waste" the past two years. They were following a low-likelihood strategy of trying to make something happen without totally tearing down.

Just like tanking itself is a low-likelihood strategy that may take many years to pay off (if it ever does -- and it doesn't for most teams, given what NBA history teaches us, if championships and finals appearances are the standard).

Tax savings.
And getting off of $19M for next year. The tax savings are like 10s of millions too. So say we tossed a couple seconds back and they save 10s of millions this year and 10s of millions next year... its not bad for them. I think they are starting to see the writing on the wall and this may be their "shot" then this summer they offload KD... or he asks out. There is a pivot coming for them so the money may start to matter.

Like it would be close to 100M in savings over two years.

Phoenix could also maybe drop out of the tax if they moved Nurk and then did a lopsided KD deal... get out of the repeater tax and all the issues that come with it... and $100M-ish.

I don't think apron teams can sign buy out players.
If they make less than MLE they can. And PJ is just under the mark. Even so.... the cost to churn a guaranteed contract for PJ isn't nothing for them since the tax is like 6x salary.

I'm curious where they go with Nurk but if you said they swapped 29th pick for 47 and 52 and saved $100M I don't think that's a bad return... even if Nurk is ***.

One thing I’ll say is THANK GOD the Mavericks did not to talk to the Spurs. I am extremely annoyed that everything good happens to the Lakers, but Luka+Wemby would have been game over.

Fox is a good player, as a competitor I’m upset about how they got him for so little but out of all the guys to commit a long term max to he is not one of the most scary.
