2024 Jazzfanz Annual Current draft

Booker and Bam

One of the reasons I picked Wemby first, honestly, was his fantasy value. And look at it like this: If he experiences a reasonable sophomore growth, what will his limit be? To quote from an article on FantasyPros.com, "...the level of production he has the potential to reach as early as next year, so early in his career, is unimaginable. I mean, he might win Most Improved Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and even Most Valuable Player. The fact you can’t immediately deny that statement shows how legitimate that claim can be and what that can mean for your lineups."

I get that but at this point this is still true:
Idea of Wemby >>>>>> Actual Wemby

He probably moves closer to that potential this year but we still havent seen other NBA teams scheme against him dead seriously as Spurs as a team havent been a threat.

But the biggest thing is the shooting. If it clicks and the TS% goes up to good/great numbers then everyone will become very worried. I dont think he will ever be elite at that though.. but he doesnt even need to.

He has been working out with Jamal Crawford this offseason.

Offensively he may struggle a little at times as teams work to scheme against him but defensively I expect him to be at all time great peak level from the get go this year. He is so damn disruptive with his size, length and recovery speed. It's scary to think how great defensively the combo of Wemby and Castle could be in a few years.

I also think he will be great but peak is absolutely the wrong term. There are so many things you need to experience to learn no matter how long limbs you may have.

Its stuff like positioning, defensive rotations, when to help and when not to, how you operate against PnR at various positions on the court... not to mention learning tendencies and gaining experince on defending the various stars.

Like peak Wemby may be good enough to shut down many of the stars 1on1 but year 2 Wemby isnt gonna do it yet.
