2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Also Locke's tirades against older prospects is annoying in that he always frames it as they are playing against 18-20 year olds when the reality is that most college players are also older

It's really more the other way around. The reason why younger guys doing anything in college is impressive is because they are doing it against guys much older than them. I think this is important though because it helps you identify talent outliers which the NBA is a league full of talent outliers.

I've made several posts in the 2023 draft thread about how you shouldn't overlook older players and that they can be productive rotation level guys, and so I do believe you shouldn't automatically discount a player because of their age. However, I do think it's important to weigh in the risk of drafting an older player, as draft history would say they don't typically pan out.

Lol. I meant Castle (mixed up Steph with Shep).

Ah, any guard with as severe as shooting concerns as Castle has bust potential.

For me, I just like watching Castle play, I'm a fan. I can see him putting it all together and being the best prospect out of this draft, but it won't super surprise me if he struggles. I still think his more likely lower outcome is way higher than Forrest, but I also don't think it's that hot of a take.

I think he’ll be a solid two-way contributor, even if he has some limitations. I just don’t think his ceiling is actually that high.

Is there anyone that would be super upset if we picked Carter at 10? Just curious, seems like it might be the one thing all of Jazzfanz agrees on.

Don't think he has many detractors, he's easy to like. I tried playing devils advocate the other day, but in the end that process led me to move him up even higher.

I think the concern would be that he's only 6'3 and his shooting/playmaking are still a little iffy.

I think Topic is the most realistic guy I would be a bit unhappy with. Partly because you don't get to see them until next year or late in the season. I need instant gratification please.

it would be hard to be upset with a carter selection at 10 - he's too good in too many areas. that said, i'm not as bullish on him as most. i'm not sure i trust his shooting and i don't love his fit next to keyonte - makes for a really small backcourt. also, he's old. when he was the age of a lot of the guys he's up against, he averaged 9 ppg on 26% from three as a freshman - and he was actually older as a frosh than some of these OADs.
