2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

The one concern I have with Topic is how well he'll be able to shoot off the dribble. That will force defenders to guard up on him and make it easier for him to get his shoulder past his defender on drives. Something to look out for.

I'm not watching these games, but the Ignite got Buzelis back and started playing close games and winning. Maybe a coincidence or maybe a great sign Buzelis is very good

He put up numbers on poor efficiency and they could not win. As soon as Buzelis starts playing they start winning.

The ignite have 4 potential first round picks.
He started out the season terrible and then started playing better and better. Once Buzelis got back and he had another guy to help take the defenses attention he blew up. In no way does Buzelis playing well make Holland look bad since he has been playing great. You are also talking about an extremely young team to start the season and was also dealing with injuries. What we are seeing now is these young guys have gotten their feet wet and are figuring some things out. Nothing annoys me more than one someone tries to talk a player up by tearing another guy down when anyone with eyes can see that Holland and Buzelis are playing very well and may be the top 2 picks in this draft.

He's putting up stats, idk about playing great
He has been playing great. That isn't even up for debate right now. That also doesn't mean that he hasn't had stretches where he struggled. Chargers post said that Buzelis playing well showed how bad Holland was playing and that was just a lie. In fact when Holland and Buzelis have been playing Holland has been awesome because defenses can't key solely on him.

Well people are debating it

My read is that Holland’s play has been impacted by a combination of all of these factors. While we’ll later discuss a player who has stood out despite the Ignite’s issues, Holland has not. He’s averaging 17.8 points per game, but the buckets aren’t coming in ways conducive to high-level NBA offense. He does not look comfortable shooting from 3, having made just 20 percent of his 2.8 3-point attempts per game. He’s also only made 57.7 percent from the foul line. He gets a lot of points on leak-outs in transition, but the numbers aren’t pretty in half-court situations. Per Synergy, Holland has a 41.7 true shooting percentage in ball screens, a 39.5 true shooting percentage on spot-ups, a 41.8 true shooting percentage out of handoffs and a 47 true shooting percentage in isolation situations. To top it off, he’s not exactly a comfortable passer who makes high-level kick-outs where he’s reading the back line of the defense.

All of this pales in comparison to his biggest issue right now: turnovers. He has about a 1-to-2 assist-to-turnover ratio and gives the ball away 4.1 times per game, the third-most in the G League right now. Many of those errors come from him either getting stripped or making a late passing read. Holland is being asked to be one of the primary creators on the team, and he’s proving he’s not quite ready for it yet. So far, his shooting splits are a bit more efficient than Jonathan Kuminga’s Ignite season, but when you add in his turnover issues, Holland’s play is not that much better.

Holland is still ranked at No. 8 because he’s starting to come around. His last three games have been much better, as he went for 24 points, 32 points and 21 points in each with reasonable shooting splits. He’s displaying more comfort using his athleticism to attack the paint without turning the ball over. But those performances still represent a tiny sample within a small sample of games, and the issues he’s demonstrated were potential flags at the start of the season. Still, Holland is quite young, and things are improving. It’s worth holding relatively steady until we get a larger sample.

From Vecenie big board article last week.

So yeah, there is plenty of debate on the quality of Holland's play.

There was probably some hyperbole in my statement. I have read a lot about Holland lately and he seems to have a little "IT" to his personality. Everything i have read has said he has a great work ethic. These are important characteristics. These can lead to success at the next level.

Honestly I worry about both Buzelis and Holland. I am also sad Tyler Smiths play has dropped off a cliff too.

He started the season awful which skewed all his numbers. I also love how you quote an old article and make no mention of Hollands next 3 games where he continued his great play with 21, 31 and 28 points on good efficiency. He has now had 6 straight games where he was good to really good and has also been extremely active defensively.

Holland has been turning it around. He looks like a plus-athlete with a solid motor and a real talent for getting out and finishing in transition. His shot has started falling too. Holland is still probably considered a better overall prospect than Buzelis. However, it's hard to deny that Buzelis is 6'9", has ball skills and looks comfortable shooting off the dribble. What Buzelis offers is really valuable. The handle and self-creation are what the Jazz are missing. I just wonder about Buzelis' ability to really compete physically at the NBA level.

It's a week old man. You said there was no debate. It's been debated.
