FO clearly missed on GG though. Should have been given some more leeway based on age and pedigree alone.Yup. Didn't exactly work out for him. Fortunately for GG, the Grizzlies are so riddled with injuries he got to play this year.

GG also had outlier talents w/ his footwork and ability to get shots off. The only thing outlier about Pate is his age and how early he went professional. But it's not like he really "earned" that distinction. The Ignite were just a super *****ly ran franchise that took anyone who wanted to come if they had a high ranking without any real concern about fit or playstyle, just you come and we will play you no matter what.FO clearly missed on GG though. The name works against him ya dink!I know he's a year younger...but what exactly has Dink Pate done to potentially be a number one consensus guy? Cool name I guess.
Go watch what he’s doing against pros at age 17. It’s projection for sure but the dude is super talented.I know he's a year younger...but what exactly has Dink Pate done to potentially be a number one consensus guy? Cool name I guess.
Don't be a dink man.The name works against him ya dink!
If he went a year early sure. Not the same comparison.Justin Edwards was a consensus top 5 recruit.
Would have been funny if he went the Ignite route, sucked, and you had a bunch of people arguing he should be a top 5 pick because he is just struggling because he in a pro league.
Well I'm sure if Edwards went a year early he would still suck and he would have probably hurt his development because at least at Kentucky he was forced to adapt and was able to be a positive role player. If he went a year early sure. Not the same comparison.
Conversely Clingan just got called for a foulI am curious if Edey gets in any foul trouble tonight. One thing that has impressed me whenever I watched him (not a ton) is he never gets in foul trouble. Rare for college bigs.

Lost and put up stats in the most meaningless games imaginable?Go watch what he’s doing against pros at age 17. It’s projection for sure but the dude is super talented.
It's all eye of the beholder. Interviews/workouts would be the primary drivers for Pate's stock. In general though I dont think most NBA teams are excited to take these kind of swings and would prefer Pate continue a non-NBA route to prove himself. In fairness, some of these guys don't pan out. RJ Hampton and Darius Bazley are examples. Someone would normally take a swing on him in the 20s of the draft. This year, he'd go earlier given how little 'upside' there is in this particular draft.
Look what he’s doing on the court. Let’s not pretend that guys like Holland and Buzelis absolutely crushed it in the same setting.Lost and put up stats in the most meaningless games imaginable?

Yeah, and I have both of those dudes ranked in the mid teens right on the border of the lottery.Look what he’s doing on the court. Let’s not pretend that guys like Holland and Buzelis absolutely crushed it in the same setting.
