2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

The case against Shannon Jr was dropped. It's going to be interesting to see where he's drafted now. I can see him stepping into the NBA and contributing right off the bat.
I think he probably ends up being a late teens pick because of his age. If he was 2 years younger I would say late lotto.

No doubt he's going to have to answer the same questions over and over again to NBA teams but that's understandable. This is going to be a fun draft and I'm just going to sit back and see what happens. The front office will have their plan. I was reading the back of a Brice autographed card and there was a quote from Zanik saying they had Brice at 18 and when he fell to 28 they were excited.

New Givony and Woo ESPN mock draft dropped this morning:

1. Risacher
2. Sarr
3. Clingan
4. Dillingham
5. Topic
6. Buzelis
7. Sheppard
8. Castle
9. Knecht
10. Williams
11. Collier
12. Walter
13. Holland
14. Salaun
15. Edey
16. Filipowski
17. Carter
18. McCain
19. Da Silva
20. Smith
29. Edwards
32. Tyson

I got to say I'm becoming more and more a fan of Zach Edey and wouldn't mind the Jazz taking him at 8 if they don't move up in the lottery. I know the team probably wants a wing like Cody Williams but if they tank next year and hope for a guy like Cooper Flagg or Ace Bailey then this year might be ideal to get a potentially dominate big. Zach Edey is definitely an upgrade to Walker Kessler who I'm not real big on.

Obviously because this draft isn't a great class I think it's more important that the Jazz don't wiff on their pick and at least get someone who can contribute. Zach Edey is that guy and simultaneously upgrades our weakest offensive position

They are holding firm on Risacher, interesting. Also, still low on Holland. I find that DX has become less and less a valid source (of opinion) once they joined with ESPN. I do wonder if they know if something is up with Holland....like maybe he's trash in practice. I find it hard to make an argument for Matas over Holland, at least on paper. Or maybe it's Matas that is outstanding in practice. We talked about people brushing over Castle's shooting concerns.....Matas shot 26% from 3 and less than 70% from the line.

A couple questions:
** Who goes 28?
** Where did he put Ware, George and Chomche?

Right now, C is not our weakest offensive position. John Collins is probably our 3rd best offensive player. Edey may be a better offensive player than Walker, but given that we are 30th in defense I don't think an offensive big is what we need.

I agree with you that the Jazz should look at '24 and '25 collectively. Next year's draft has high-end wings and guards, but the big depth might actually be as good or better in this draft. I do also think that once workouts take place, guys like Buzelis, Holland and Williams have a lot to gain if they perform well and allay a few concerns.

I don't think Risacher is actually going to go #1. I think it will be Sarr or maybe Topic if the team in question needs a lead guard.

Passing on a wing because there are better wings the following draft (who you likely won't even get) is so foolish. Creating a problem that does not exist. How terrible it would be if we get a good wing in 24 and 25.

I think these mocks can suffer from misinformation coming from scouts/GMs and possibly even some pressure from agents in some cases. I think Holland is going to get drafted safely inside the top 10.

Would be thrilled with Castle, but I'd have a really hard time taking him over Knecht.

I think this strategy would apply to a later pick. Not our top pick. If the Jazz are drafting in the 20s and have an opportunity to draft someone like Ware, Missi, Chomche (if they believe in him), etc., then that would be on strategy due to positional need. But I agree with you that they won't pass on a wing in the top 10 this year, hoping they'll get Cooper or Ace next year.

The hit rate is so low, even on the 8th pick, it doesn't matter. You can never get enough wings. If you have too many wings you are in an incredible situation.

DX is essentially just an agent mouthpiece at this point.
I don’t agree with this at all. They crushed it last year with their mocks. They have a good gauge on player value around the league and will adjust accordingly.

DX said they’d be surprised if Risacher fell out of the top-3.
