What's new

2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

I think SAS would be unphased by the injury news….I also think there was a chance Topic fell even before the injury news. There are a lot of teams in the top 10 where they theoretically have their solution at PG. If the Spurs take Shep, Castle, or Dilly at 4 I don’t think anyone else takes Topic and that may have been the case before injury announcement.

As for the Jazz….it wouldn’t bother me. I still might like one of the wing options, but if he was their guy before the news I think he’d still be the guy now.
I think SA may take Castle at 4 and still take Topic at 8. They will be the determining factor imo on who is available. Maybe they go Castle/Dilly/Shep and Salaun or something though.

It would only be annoying because you have to wait a year to see the new guy... we can live though.

I think the Spurs would offer both their top-10 picks, plus a future pick, for Lauri. Not saying the Jazz would do it, but I think that discussion is inevitable. Lauri is largely seen as the perfect complement to another primary big.
I’d offer them a foot in teh *** if that was their offer. Not nearly good enough.

I'm re-watching some Topic film and it's much better than I remember (or my standards have just lowered). He is a little awkward and the competition isn't great, but Topic really pops. I'm coming around.

It’s pretty crazy how well he takes out guys on his way to the basket. I don’t have a good grasp on the competition level so it makes me a little suspicious….but maybe he’s really that good.

I do worry that he can’t guard any position in the NBA, but he’s still a really strong offensive prospect.

His two weaknesses are shooting and defense. I'm not as concerned about his shooting, I think it will be ok. I'm extremely concerned about his defense, however if he really has a 7 foot wing span he should at least have the potential to be adequate.

I tend to agree….though I will say when it comes to things like measurables I am much more encouraged when the player does the things the measurables are supposed to do rather than vice versa. I haven’t done a deep dive on his defense, but almost everyone sees it as a concern.

I like this big board because it’s highly original. This isn’t just a rehash of what the reporters are writing.

Cody Williams is the lightest “forward” ever measured at the combine. Whole new level of slenderman. I’ve gone back and forth on him….but I think id put him last out of the toolsy wings (Holland, Matas, Salaun).

Do you mean it feels like ACL, but is in fact tendinitis, or that tendinitis is the cause of the partially torn ACL?
The pain from tendinitis is in the tearing of the sheaths. When there is a lot of tearing it can be hard to tell what the culprit is. Even good orthos can look at an MRI and get fooled as to what is causing the pain until they actually do a surgical procedure.

Topic's ability to drive and put pressure on the rim is probably the best in this draft class. It should look just as good or better on a spaced NBA floor, with better bigs to play off of. That aspect of his game has drawn some comparisons to Manu Ginobli. Hopefully his knee injuries don't hurt his burst in the long-term.

Spurs could still take him with the 8th pick.

Jazz are drafting Topic and I'll tell you why, because, although the Jazz are slated to have their greatest summer league team ever, we are going to get 12 minutes of Sensabaugh, a steady diet of Johnny Juzang and a cast of dudes who probably won't even play for the Stars. For a strange variety of reasons none of the other guys we want to see will appear. Topic is just the easiest to explain.

I don't make the rules, I just live the Jazz Summer League life. We can't have nice things.

I actually think Collier rivals him in ability to get to the rim+finish….rest of Collier’s game needs some work though.

Was thinking the same thing the other day but I just don’t see the same court awareness between the two. Curious how their athleticism matches up and especially the initial burst after the acl. If colliers defense is quite a bit better than makes it a difficult decision after the injury
