2024 NBA Draft Reaction Thread

Is it too early to be thoroughly underwhelmed at Ainge and his big-game hunting trip? Here I was expecting him to bag an elephant or a cape buffalo and he is still pinging away at hyenas and warthogs.

Someone help me understand how I am supposed to feel about this. Is it sadness, or anger, or disappointment, or some other weird empathetic thing? If so I will try to help it overwhelm the suffocating ambivalence I actually do feel. I mean the poor 20 year old kid will have to toil away at some measly $500k a year job for 2-3 years maybe before he can bank on breaking that million $ per year barrier. Should I feel, sad for him I guess? Aww, poor guy. So, uh, sad, I guess.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've watched the game my whole life and if you're not prepared to put your body on the line you got no chance in hell of making it as a professional AFL player.
Don't forget that soft spongy brain in that thin and very crackable skull. Put it all on the line for the glory!!

Yeah, think it's pretty common. Utah didnt workout Hendricks I believe.
Depends. Sarr did not workout for Atlanta and they probably weren't taking him #1 overall as result. Most drafts have a certain consensus of dudes who will be Stars and, if they fall in that group, there isn't much reason to work out except for a few teams.

As far as Hendricks, he still came in and interviewed, but didn't work out due to a hammy.

I'm not sure there are any big moves to be made this summer. Based and recent trades the price to acquire even mediocre vets is sky high, and there wasn't anything in this draft that warranted cashing in a bunch of chips.

Still, sometimes you've got to make your own luck. And I've been pretty unimpressed with Ainge too. The team has spent the last two years chasing its own tail. Waiting for star players to fall into your lap isn't a viable strategy for the Utah Jazz, What's more, all those future picks everyone is so ga-ga over are all likely to be late first round picks of marginal value.

Clearly the correct strategy for 2024-2025 it to tank hard. But I'm not sure Ryan has the stomach for it.

He better. We're turning into the Wizards pretty quickly.

I will acknowledge that Ainge is pretty good at manipulating the media. He's good at dropping quotes and letting info slip out to create a smokescreen or misdirection.
At least that, but what he's not doing is giving the team a direction. Lauri emerging as he did was an incredible stroke of luck. However, we need some sort of direction because waiting for the "big game" is not a viable strategy. Proper luck is simply executing the proper course of action at any time. I grant that you don't ship players for the sake of making trade, but FFS, if we're doing a full rebuild, let the young players play and get the Vets out of here. If we aren't doing that, why aren't we working on signing players that can contribute immediately to maximize Lauri's contract?

That's my frustration with the rebuild is not so much the fact we have to do it. It's the fact we're half-assing it. It's like MILF Hunting without going to known cougar hunting grounds.

Eh I don't think we vastly over paid John wall.

We have good salary/contract situation and great asset situation. Wizards? Not so much

No, but we do need to pay Lauri and as much as I like Lauri, it might turn into a Beal situation where Utah is forced to bend the knee because there are no other options.
