What's new

2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

I love Markenen, but I’m hearing San Antonio is sniffing around. I might be willing to endure one more tank for those ATL and CHI picks they’re hoarding.

Harris to the Pistons and Hartenstien to the Thunder take away the only two Collins destinations that made sense to me.

I’d be pretty upset as a Thunder fan that after all of their diligent work to build the team smart, their big cap move is *checks notes* paying Hartenstein $30 million? Jesus Christ.
Yeah I get they have space, he fills a role, and OKC isn't a big destination but we'll see. His third year extends into JDub/Chet extension time so I'm curious if the third is a team option or something

This Jazz rebuild isn't going to be 1 or 2 years. It's going to be 5 years. I can see the Jazz moving Lauri in that context, but that doesn't mean they need to do it this summer.
Also giving some time to find out what we have with those rookies on the team. If they are better than expected, it might speed up the whole process and giving us a reason to keep Lauri here.

Frankly, I think local media has a more opaque view into the front office. Locke can’t wink and nod our draft picks. Last year the story was, “jazz want the pick to convey”… until it wasn’t. This year it was “jazz want to build around Lauri”… until it wasn’t.

Outside of San Antonio, who can renegotiate and extend him themselves, it makes more sense to trade him after an extension - when his contract is more long-term and they can extract a bigger haul.

What are the rules on extend-and-trade these days? Didn't Cleveland just do this when they traded us Sexton?

This has also been my stance, but Windy literally said that he has heard that Danny is listening... and not in a fake way like he sometimes does.

I also only thought he wont get traded before we extend him, but Spurs could pay up big time before that as they can easily hold the cap space needed to R&E him themselves.
