What's new

#63-Atlanta At Utah--Tuesday 7:00pm

We aren't the same team after the trade. Clearly its more than just Mack, but we are exposed.

Need a legit shooter off the bench. None of this Chris Johnson Joe Ingles crap. Those guys are fine end of the
bench types, but not rotation guys.

Burks took too long to come back.
This season sucks

I love the Jazz. Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth it because it can actually be painful. It's been a painful year to be a jazz fan because it's like we've been on the cusp so often. With the occasional fart like tonight. But it takes an actual psychic toll. Like I feel actually depressed when the Jazz lose. And that's sort of funny if you think about it. They're a sports team. #firstworldproblems and all that. Still. Anyway. I'm rambling.
I agree.
I'm sick of this ****. Bout to just give up on this season

I did too, even a bit earlier than you, IINM ;), outlining the salary outlook for '18/'19. KSL is late to the party. Probably got the idea from reading our posts. I'm not so sold on DL as you are, though. What assets has he really obtained? 2nd-round picks are worthless and he's wasted a few (trading for later ones or selling for cash). Got a couple of extra firsts for tearing down the team and getting rid of Millsap and Carroll. Blew a couple by trading up for Burke. His SOLE hope lies on Dante Exum. That is the net result of the "GM tank." Gobert would have been available with the Jazz' pick had they made the playoffs. Oh yeah, substitute Hood for Carroll. And I guess we see what the GS pick next year brings. Kanter trade would have occurred in any scenario, so no gain from the "tank."

Do you think in the overheated market this summer, Utah will find anyone better than Millsap and DMC. And BOTH would have likely been signed to 4yr deals for a LOT cheaper had they been signed after the 2013 season. Jazz are 28th in payroll. No problem with keeping both of them and still being well under the tax threshold.

Probably, I read it on hear somewhere and at first I balked at the idea. However, I let the idea brew for a while, and it started to make sense to me. It fits with the trades and signings (or really the lack thereof) that Lindsey has made. Trading Hayward to extend an asset is a very Lindsey thing to do.

It so happens, that there is a team in Boston that likes Hayward, and has GM who: 1-has a history of making aggressive trades and 2- who is sitting on a pile of draft picks, and 3- whos team is very close to making jump in the east.

So on draft night, I will be surprised if we don't see a trade of Hayward and #12 to Boston for #5 (or wherever Brooklyn picks ends up) and #17 (the Dallas pick) plus some combination of future picks or random players. I would love to get Jae Crowder, but that isn't happening.

I can't help but notice that while the core players were developing, the team always had 2 or 3 decent veterans that, while over-used quite often, at the very least provided some depth. Now that the core has developed into legit starters, they've had the rug pulled out from them by a Front Office that somehow sees fit to support them with nothing more than D-League talent.

Jazz can only make such trade if they have target plan of how to get a good veteran bench, like Portland makes. Jazz MUST make playoffs next year or whole team will explode again.

Good point, we threw the core to the lions semi-naked with a butter spreading knife.

we also gave them:
(1) a whisk
(2) flour
(3) sugar
(4) powdered sugar
(5) milk
(6) butter
(7) cocoa nibs
(8) mother ****in maraschino cherries

Lakers have beaten the Warriors. That doesn't mean they contend for the title. What's important is who ranks within the playoff slot when the regular season is over and I take a late winning tempo over a tired team that just are not energized up enough for the playoffs.

2 games behind Houston. Boo hoo.. Houston will not make the playoffs.

Is that possible? If you take Gordon, Booker, and Johnson off this team, add a rookie Valentine, a returning Exum, a re-returning Burks, and a couple of veteran journeyman...do they make the playoffs?

This

We had Millsap, Jefferson, and Kanter. All quality pieces a few years ago. Assets that could've been traded for something good. Essentially, we gave all three away.

For what???

We also let Demarre Carroll walk for nothing. That one sucked.

Don't forget about Boozer he was valuable and the Jazz didn't trade him.
https://archive.sltrib.com/story.php?ref=/Sports/ci_12750212 Old article about JAzz needing to move him.

Ummm, no, he WASN'T valuable. If you recall, the Jazz let Boozer shop around for deals - in OPEN VIOLATION of NBA rules. He went to Chicago and Miami before his last season. Nothing was offered. There wasn't a market for him or the Jazz would have pulled the trigger. They wanted to clear cap space and not take back bad contracts for vets on the downside. The same was true with Jefferson. I did a very in-depth analysis of Big Al trades that could have occurred (given each team's cap space and salaries they would have needed to give back). Again, not a market unless Utah wanted to take back bad contracts.

Jazz were very adamant about only taking back expiring contracts so they could free cap space to either retool (by re-signing Millsap, DMC and going after a vet PG) or rebuild (which ultimately happened by DL taking on the GS salaries).
