The younger guys getting big minutes will be good for the franchise because:

- They, for the most part, play solid defense. Annnd I wasn't gonna say it but I will: Defense wins championships.
- They are flat-out more fun to watch. Al Jefferson can score 40 points and grab 15 boards and I'll still prefer the young guns over the veterans
- The offense can become more balanced. I'm tired of seeing the offense go to Al Jefferson 80% of the time. It's not fun to watch.
- Majority of fans want the young guys to get more burn. In turn, the games will be more exciting to watch and the fans will continue to buy tickets.

It's simple really. If you have to move a few players to give the young guys more minutes then you do it.

I hear you. I just keep going back and forth on him, but I keep coming back to the fact that his defense is suspect despite what he can bring offensively and the fact that him getting 30+ minutes a night is taking away from the development of Favors and Kanter.

I'm for Team Future, but I also see no value in making trades just for the sake of making trades. If KOC can't get picks for guys like CJ, Howard and Bell, then just keep them. Howard could be re-signed, CJ is an expiring, so he'll be gone and Bell, although taking away some PT, at least sets an example of toughness.

And I also don't want KOC to take on even worse contracts in trading Big Al and Harris. Those two may have more value as expiring contracts, especially as the tax penalties get stiffer under the new CBA. Jazz could very well pick up a very good player if a team has to dump a salary or two in the next 2 years.

Utah is in a solid financial position right now and it will get even better as those two big contracts come off the books. KOC also has the Memo TPE to use. Yes, I'd like to see the young guys get more PT. But it's not like Favors and Kanter have been dominant. They've shown promise, but IMHO, neither is ready for 30+ mins per game.

The Jazz youngsters will improve that much quicker with a good corps of vets to guide them along. The "sink or swim" method isn't automatically better or quicker, and has ruined many a young player... Coach Ty seems to have his finger on the pulse of this group of young Jazz-men, so I'm just gonna sit back enjoy the whole TEAM.

I vote on the future: I would like Burks and Kanter to get 15-20 minutes, Favors 20-25, and Hayward 25-30 minutes a game. It is really hard for any one to develop when you don't get at least 15-20. CJ is done developing and is what he is and I do not like to see CJ take away minutes for Burks. It just does not make sense unless it helps us trade him. if we cant package him or get a late 1st round pick for CJ I would gladly take a 2nd round pick depending on how the new C.B.A works. I see nothing wrong with playing Millsap and Jefferson 25-30 instead of 30-35 minutes a game and don't find it necessary to trade one of them unless it makes us better. I would really like the minutes for our bigs evened out more if there is nothing solid comes in trade value this season. What I do not want to happen is seeing the Jazz taking back a bad contract when both Millsap and Jefferson are playing good and are not really hurting the present. As far as the future I would much rather keep Millsap over Jefferson. Even Harris is playing much better now so it does not make sense to take back a bad contract for him either. If he keeps playing good then I say keep him until the end of his contract and either draft a great point guard. And lets remember the Jazz will be heavy hitters in the 2013 free agency so lets not blow it by taking back bad contracts. Lets be patient.
 
of course future. package millsap & harris for an "above average" pg and keep jefferson to mentor young bigs.

I wish the Jazz would have played the young guys a lot from day 1.
I'm pretty sure most of us would have been ok with a bad season if we got to see the young guys play and develop.

Yep. Pretty simple, really. Only downside is tradability of the vets.
 
AJ and Sap both expire next year. Assuming both young guys look ready to take over one of them will be kept. The other expiring will be pretty useful in signing whoever stays. The frontcourt is in a very good situation for both present and future. I would assume AJ is let go and Sap becomes 6th man.

CJ obviously can go. If JR Smith generates interest so will CJ. They're like the same guy only CJ isn't an *******. But I doubt any team is so in love with him they can't wait for him to expire.

Howard is probably decently tradeable. Again, though, anyone that's interested would probably be smarter to keep watching his play this year and make an offer to him.

Harris will have very good value next year if he can keep playing like the last 2 weeks. Trouble is, Utah has no young talent behind him. If we cannot acquire Rondo I don't know what else is likely. If there is a trade and it can't be RR I'm looking for somebody's backup who plays behind a superstar. Maynor or Jackson in OKC. Eric Bledsoe in LA. Josh Selby in Memphis comes to mind.

So I guess I can't vote either. Utah needs a youngish PG and Burks needs minutes but I don't see a problem at all with the big guys. All 3 of Utah's highest contracts are expiring next year and at the end of the season whatever picks we have will obviously be much more concrete than they are now. KOC has maximum flexibility over this next summer and it only gets better as next season heads towards the deadline. Definitely against moving those assets right away unless it's a GREAT offer.

IMO this is good for the present and is the most responsible way to stack the deck in our own favor for the future.
 
I don't think you need to be sooo literal and think that "team future" = strictly youth and "team present" = current mixture. The team of the future is a more athletic and defensively orientated bunch, and any older vets that fit that mindset are, IMO, welcome to stay.

Odd men out are likely Jefferson, CJ, Howard, Harris.

Indy, Orlando, and Atlanta should all have some interest in any of these players. Each team has recently seen that they need to add something if they want to get into the next tier of eastern teams. I would imagine that any elite squad would be interested in the services of CJ and Howard (Chicago, Miami, etc); deepening your bench is always a good idea. If you think you are a true contender then giving up a pick for a player that may give you the extra gas is a no-brainer.

Speaking of Orlando... if a Dwight deal does go down, then we are an ideal third team. A few of our assets could leave town in such a deal.
Houston was going to give away Lowry, Martin, and The Argentine for Gasol. Wow. Now that Lowry has proven himself to be a keeper, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be interested in Jefferson for Martin. Damn, that'd be nice.

Some teams will be mailing it in for the year and cutting costs. We have that TPE.

I think there will be some movement. Maybe nothing major, but we could drop CJ and Howard and add a player.

Looked at their dept chart and their 2nd best backup wing player is Quentin Richardson. This could actually work Frank.

I'm calling ******** on this line of thinking. Yes, we can all talk big and say we want to see the youngins get the majority of the minutes, even if we win 5 more games this season. No ****ing way this board, let alone the rest of the fan base, will stand for this and Ty would certainly lose his job. Can you imagine what that kind of losing would do to the players, the locker room environment, and fan attendance at games? It would plummet, Ty would get fired (he would not put himself in a position to lose his job), and the losing would transfer over to next year. WE DON'T HAVE A SUPERSTAR. WE ARE NOT OKC. GET THE **** OVER IT.

Some of you talk big like you don;t care if this team wins or not. But judging by this boards weeping and crying after losses I can tell you, no one would stand for this.

It's so true. If the young guys all started the way people around here want, and struggled for an extended period, first they would call for the coach being fired and one by one every player would be a bust. Get rid of player X and draft player Y. Trade for player Z it's so obvious this would make the team 100x better. Fire the GM, coach, sell the team, get more draft picks by any means so fans can move on to whatever the new rookie hero will be. Vilify all veterans, they are never the future.

Some of that is already going on anyways. It's just the nature of internet fandom. I've been seeing this for years with the Browns. There is no such thing as a quick fix.

We know that KOC and GMiller are not afraid to make a strong sudden move but what they don't do is gamble unnecessarily or make a move just for the sake of making a move. IMO whatever is done will be in the spirit of helping Corbin create an atmosphere of discipline and common purpose. I don't think there are a lot of midseason trades that help with that.

Sounds like just about all the crap teams that have been losing for the past 10-20 years to me.

This is much more likely to happen if we bench all the veterans than all of our young guys developing and us becoming the next OKC.
