What's new

A bit of trade speculation surrounding Cousins...

I could see this happening if it wasn't for the ownership and coach both wanting to win now. If Boogie gets traded some future pieces will be coming, but most likely some win now stuff as well... Maybe a 3-way with Lawson and stuff going to Sacramento the NY pick going to Denver.

I wonder if a #1 pick would change their minds.

If you pick Okafor and add him to Sac, they look a lot better:

Collinson
Stauskas
Gay
Landry
Okafor

That's a solid core. A much better team that trading Cousins for Den's PG.

5 years in the NBA, 5 seasons with 50+(adjusted for the lockout year) losses in the league! For a supposedly top 10 player in the league, he surely doesn't help his team win much... Go figure.

Well Hayward and Favors HAVE sat out the last two games so maybe they're going to be traded. Probably have quietly asked for a trade since Utah missed the playoffs yet again!

JK..

Didn't Utah just get rid of a UK cancer? Why bring in a new one? DMC is a very talented player. But he's a head case. The Block Brothers have great chemistry going. You can tell this team is tight now that Kanter is gone. An all-star PG is the only player Utah should consider trading valuable assets for.

I think Sacramento should tear the thing down and build around a top 3 pick from NY and a top 6 pick of their own this year... then you realize that the owner wants to win now and doesn't know what he is doing... the coach is 100 years old and has 2-3 years left and probably doesn't want to pile up a bunch of losses... who the hell knows who the GM is there... Is it Vlade? All of this adds up to making really stupid short term decisions.

I imagine a negotiation between Sacramento and NY would be high comedy though...

It would be foolish to not do due diligence on this. And there's a nearly unassailable precedence for the importance of star power as it relates to NBA champions. And for what it's worth, Cousins has been on a good team for a short time, then that maniac owner fired the coach that actually knew what he was doing and getting through to the players.

But I definitely lean towards not ****ing up what's happening right now.

I would poke around the deal, but more in an effort to see if there were opportunities to get assets as a third team and help facilitate things a little.

Some posters freak out when someone posts about D-Will returning and what it will do to team morale. Cousins is the worst cancer out there. His attitude sucks, he's fought teammates in the past (college, NBA), pulled Thomas away from Chris Paul during a post-game handshake, etc. Hell, no.

There is an obvious trade out. Cousins to NY for draft picks. I mentioned this a couple weeks ago, but it just makes too much sense. Jackson needs another all star to pair with Carmelo, Jackson becomes coach and they all ride off into the sunset...and blow up in a fire-y mess. Lol.

Get it done. I'd love to see Fisher stuck with Carmelo and Baby Cousins. I'd love to watch Jackson crash and burn without officials ther to bail him out.
Don't salaries have to match or something?
I don't think picks from ny for cousins works

Combine Measurements
Name, Agility, Sprint, Wingspan
Favors, 11.74, 3.25, 7’4’’
Cousins, 11.40, 3.55, 7’6’’

Cousins is both more agile and longer than favors. He also has a better defRtg, and averages more steals and the same # of blocks per36. I don't see why he couldn't have similar success as Favors out on the perimeter with proper motivation.

The notions of Cousins as a defensive liability or as someone who could not defend the perimeter are silly. Cousins has ELITE defensive skills and offensive skills and performance. His head just isn't screwed on too tightly and he is a locker room cancer, which is why you don't do this deal.

And being quite real, I sure as **** wouldn't want to play for the Sacramento Kings, the most hapless NBA franchise of the last 15 years.

I can see them calling up Jazz because they have a lot of pieces that might make them better. Seriously, if i'm trading a superstar I'm calling the Jazz! Picks, young talent, cap space. Knicks with the #1 pick would be nice but i'd rather a package centered around Favors/Burke/Hood/Picks if I'm the Kings. I would oppose a trade unless, it got to the point of something silly.

Sexual Favors don't think I'm trolling cause I'm not, but you seem to be high on guys you can't win with. I suspect you are high on guys like Dion Waiters, Rudy Gay (before this year), and Josh Smith. Cousins will never win in the league if he's the best player on a team. And if he is ever an important piece on a good team, that team will need a strong veteran leadership and winning culture. I think I heard Locke say Cousins is close to as bad as Richie Incognito in the locker room.

I've never been high on a single one of those guys, in fact, they've always disgusted me. Cousins' talent is undeniable, as is the Kings' dumpster fire of management since drafting him. He's a head case, but I don't know if you can say you can't win with him just yet. You can't win with ANYONE in a bad situation.

I've been high on Kanter and Lavine who this board said you couldn't win with because they are too dumb, but I believe both will prove their merit as they develop.

Players I've supported with flack from JF:

Kanter (still don't think I'm wrong. He's producing in new environment and they'll win when healthy).
Gobert (last year half of this board said he would be a backup. I saw the potential from day one).
Hayward (I cheered when we drafted him).
Neto (once I saw SL... so I guess some hindsight compared to Trey)
Burks (after 12-13 people were saying I only liked him because he was flashy. Fools, I watched him in college).
A. Gordon (verdict is still out. Plays winning ball. Really think he should be an SF).
Z. Lavine (verdict is still out, but looks like I'll be right on this one)
KCP (thought he'd be a good 3 &D, not a star. He's meh.)
Giannis or Schroeder over Trey
MCW over Trey (was right, but they both suck)

I like players who have something that sets them apart. They often haven't grown into their bodies, or learned the game completely, but I see them as far better picks at their draft positions than the decorated safe bets. I think most of those above will pan out.

In this upcoming draft, I have supported Russell since September when I found out who he was. Do a search if you must. I've supported Mudiay since joining JF. You can search that too. I like Towns, and don't want Okafor. I'm intrigued by Hozanja.

Don't have much else as far as tangibles to back up my point... so yeah, it is what it is. My point is more or less that the physical tools are there, with proper motivation and schemes i don't see the defensive catastrophe as foretold.

Combine was a long time ago, they have both physically changed since then. Fact is Cousins takes plays off on defense frequently. He is worse than Kanter in this regard. Yes maybe he suddenly changes with a new coach and plays hard all game but that seems like a silly risk to take when we have a team working together. We also have a player in Favors that is developing much faster than Cousins. Cousins is pretty much the same player he was in the league his rookie year. Favors has worked hard to develop, look at his jump shot this year. We have good reason to think Favors will continue to develop at a faster rate than Cousins. We also have an identity as a defensive team, Cousins does not consider himself a defensive player and puts in little effort, this would hurt our all around defense and cause other players to not rotate properly and work less hard. Look at what we were with Kanter in the lineup.

Sorry if you think Cousins is as good of a defender as Favors than I guess you make the trade but that seems silly to me. Even if he changes his effort (huge risk) he is not going to be the defender Favors is right now.
