What's new

A bunch of Biyombo game footage videos

Watched part 4 of 1-23. Thing I liked best was the seeming mentality that he's NOT going to beat on transition defense. He didn't seem to set many screens and he was very much underutilized on the offensive end. Neither team ran ANY post play, so there's no way to tell how he is in that regard. Given what I've seen, he should be really solid, though the one time I saw a guy try to post on him, he gave ground. The poster ended up screening him making him unable to give help. Had to help a LOT on the defensive end. He's a bit jumpy, which allowed the guard to pass to Biyombo's man for the easy lay up several times.

Things I noted. His hands are average. He catches good passes but fumbles poor ones. He needs to work on boxing out better. He shows on PnR's very well and usually recovers well too. He has the ability to switch onto guards.

He has no jumpshot. He needs to continue to develop his defensive awareness and position.

Right now he could play as the 3rd or 4th big man for every team in the league. His defense and rebounding are that valuable.

I agree wholeheartedly. His defense is assuredly NBA level. And from what I've read, the issues on defense he had earlier in the season were rectified later in the season, meaning he learns from the coaches. He's "raw" because he has no offensive game, but he looks fairly well polished on the defensive end. He knows how to use his length and athleticism quite well.

I wasn't that impressed. He is really raw and seemed to have average hands and seemed to get pushed around a little. Dude has really long arms but this may be why he doesn't shoot well. I don't see how he is a top 10 pick. I might consider him at 12 but it would depend on who else is there and if the Jazz already drafted a big.

I don't really see him as a starter in the NBA unless he really improves his overall game especially his offense.

Agreed he seemed bigger than everyone else out there but was not dominant anywhere. Got pushed around bit on every pump fake even against guards who he did not need to jump to block their shot. Seemed out of place. I think he has the size and athleticism to be a great player depending on how smart he is and how hard he works but I is a project on fes level.

Poor boxing out, and terrible screen setter. I've watched almost all of these videos and I think I've seen him properly set, and time 1 screen. You are definitely playing 4 on 5 on offense when he's on the floor.

I could see his defense being as disruptive as a prime AK in regards to his ability to challenge shots and show on the pnr, but I think bigger guys will abuse him on the block. He gives up position early in the possession, and doesn't really regain it.

I always worry that he goes for the blocked shot instead of the proper defensive play.

What make him different than Sanar Sene Sene (sp)? Who was an athletic guy but unpolished basketball player?

Sene couldn't play anywhere at all. Didn't do **** anywhere. So bad he couldn't get off the bench on a terrible Belgian team.

Biyombo is 18 and is comparable to Favors but with better D if you are going off athleticism and size. Favors went 3 in a pretty good draft.

Sene was a stick figure. Biyombo's compared to Dwight Howard for legitimate reasons.

He is an elite physical specimen that should be able to guard power forwards just as easily as centers. That alone makes you believe he will have a place in the league.

I'm not worried about a guy with his body and athleticism becoming a good post defender. What I like from watching him play defense is his mentality about it -- he tracks the ball, he helps, he's offensive about stopping that ball from going into the basket.

The guy is going to be an excellent defensive center, which is one of the most difficult things to find. Much more difficult than an excellent defensive wing. Just look at the salaries. Good to great defensive center? 8-10 million dollar floor. Great defensive wing? 5 million dollar ceiling.

To repeat my point above, what makes Biyombo unique as a defender when you watch him is he knows where the ball is at all times. Watch KG play defense and you see the same thing. The distinction is Biyombo guards the floor, not just his man. Even good NBA centers just react when the ball gets in the paint. He's 2 seconds ahead of good NBA centers the way he plays. That ability leads him into mistakes (of aggression), he still needs to refine his instincts, and he'll definitely have a learning curve in post defense. But he's a pretty rare talent on defense.

I honestly don't know how you can watch the tape on Biyombo and NOT appreciate how he is altering the game. Are you watching?

Seriously, I would not be bent if the Jazz selected him 3rd. Of course, I'd prefer they find a way to get him at 6-8.

Biyombo looks like he can be a better Tyson Chandler on the defensive end. Chandler is a bit more athletic than what Ben Wallace was, and Biyombo looks to have a better body than Chandler has.

One thing for sure, there's going to be an interesting player dropping down to 12.

Biyombo will not fall to 8. I'd be seriously SHOCKED. I don't think he'd fall that far in a "normal" draft.
