What's new

A bunch of Biyombo game footage videos

If you watch those videos, the teams in the league he played in would destroy college basketball. If you put the top 8 teams in the NCAA against the top 8 teams in his league it would be a slaughter. Like 8-0 or 7-1 and you'd see teams like Duke and UNC just getting blown out. A very high level of basketball without NBA athletes. But much better athletes across the board than any college schedule.

Let's all just admit now, before the draft, that Ford is having an off-year.

It actually makes sense that Biyombo would slide in the lottery if you think about it. Lottery teams need results. For the next two years, Biyombo projects as a backup center who can't score. And there are legit concerns he will never score. If you're the GM of a lottery team that really sucks and you have one pick, you're probably going to look for guys with better offensive upside. We can take Biyombo higher than most teams since we already have the 3. I think a slide to 12 is possible.

I am not much of a proponent of Biyombo, but at 12 he would be a steal IMO. You can gamble on a player like this at 12 in a weak draft.

watched the game film and scared the heck out of me when i saw that car in the electronic billboard on the sideline.

I want him on our team because it would suck so bad to play against him. I've never seen anybody who's such a defensive nightmare, ever. He would make the Jazz infinitely tougher.

You've never watched Mark Eaton or Hakeem Olajuwon?
You seriously believe that Eaton played like that? He was a great defensive player, but nowhere near the disruptor that Biyombo is. Olajuwon was closer, but he didn't do what Bismak does defensively. This kid is relentless. If BB ultimately comes anywhere close to Olajuwon offensively then we'd be looking at multiple championships. It's obviously much more likely that our offense would need to come from somewhere else.

LOL at Eaton. I loved the guy but he was one of the least athletic players I have ever seen. All he had to do was raise his arms and someone would be dumb enough to try to shoot over him and he would rack up the blocks.

Let's reign in the horses a little bit here. I think us Jazz fans have always craved having a defensive force at center. We have to go back to the years with Eaton to even remember what it's like to have a player like that. Eaton wasn't athletic at all, but he was very smart (and very tall) and he was a two-time defensive player of the year, and still holds the record for average blocks per game. Since it's been so long, I think we tend to salivate at the sight of someone that can potentially come in and be a defensive stopper and we're willing to ignore any other shortcomings that said player might have (in Biyombo's case his weakness would probably be: not a basketball player). Biyombo's a freak and can have a spot in this league. I'm just of the opinion that it'll take years for him to even be good enough to log 20-30 min per game. Teams don't usually like to play 4 v 5 on the offensive end. Hate on me all you want, but I just wanted to state my opinion.

wow... Biyombo IS already better than Olajuwon defensively?? honestly, he will never be as good as Olajuwon defensively.

did anyone else notice that he fell to the ground a lot in each game he played, including the Nike Hoop Summit? i am a little concerned about that since that would get him in a position where he can get hurt a lot. that also shows he is not very balanced when he moves.

I could see BB falling to 12 easily. Look how far Hassan Whiteside fell due to being so offensively inept, granted Whiteside had the brain of a small prairie animal.

You said defensive nightmare. Eaton was much more a defensive nightmare than Biyombo is. And Biyombo doesn't even come close to what Eaton and Olajuwon did defensively.

Eaton and Biyombo are incomparable. Eaton was a ball-swatting Ent planted next to the hoop. Biyombo simply will not have Eaton's skyscraping reach, but he is a MUCH more versatile defender that will probably be able to guard 4 positions (and adequately cover 5 if he's forced to on a switch [this will be what really sets him apart in the league])

And it wouldn't be wise to compare Hakeem to anyone except those in his class; Russell, Kareem.

Exactly. I'm not the kind of guy to just fall in love with potential every year. I didn't for Whiteside and I didn't for Thabeet. The qualities that we KNOW Biyombo already has (insane body, gamer, smart, great work ethic) tell me you've found something special and that your patience will be rewarded.
