He shot 57.4% from the field that year

He was very efficient- excellent from behind the 3 pt line too. I wonder if Kyrie Irving will eclipse those numbers in his career sometime.

I think Rondo is the only PG who could come close (without the 3pt % of course). To be a PG and have over 50% shooting you have to be be very selective with your shots. Rondo shot 53.6 % 2 years ago.

Another awesome thing about Stockton. (From Wikipedia) Stockton avoided most endorsements, and stayed loyal to Utah despite being offered significantly more money by other teams. In 1996, he agreed to a deal that made salary-cap space available so the team could improve, but insisted on guaranteed Delta Center ice time for his son's hockey team. Stockton was a one of a kind Basketball player. I wish there were more like him.

Your ignorance is showing again.

...I was merely illustrating the absurdity of trying to compare any current or even former point guard to the accomplishments of John Stockton. To think any of these modern day clowns could duplicate John's shooting percentage for that year is, well, absurd!

Rondo got within 4% points......

Was Stockton ever in the top ten voting for league MVP? I have a feeling he never was stupid NBA! Let's face it though, Stockton never played to get recognized, he just wanted to ball!

According to https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/fg_pct_season.html John Stockton is the only PG in the history of the NBA or ABA to shoot a FG percentage over 55% for a season. Just like his assists record (and probably, his steals record) no PG in the game today will beat that FG percentage mark for a season.

His 57.4% that year was God-like.

So you think it's inconceivable that Rondo increases his career high mark of 53.6 up 1.4 more points to 55%?

I can easily see someone doing that eventually. They just have to be the right type of player. Either a PG who limits himself to layups and close shots (Rondo) or a conservative shooting (but still a great shooter), pass first PG (like Stockton).

Irving is a possibility, considering he is shoot 48% this year, despite being a rookie and not having a great team around him.

Phenomenal stat. Ironically he set it in his first year as a starter and still averaged over 13 ppg.

Or an extremely accurate and efficent shooter. Nash had a great run of 50%+ shooting seasons while still averaging 17-18 ppg, but I don't think any PG is going to eclipse Stock's 57.4%.

I agree, say Kyrie is as good a player as Stockton at some point in his career (which is saying he's a top 5 all time) will he ever play with a Malone type player that can take him to the next level, and help him get 15,806 assists. I highly doubt it. Don't think he'll eclipse any of his career stats, maybe beat him in a random season stat at some point

....Rondo is one of the worse outside shooting guards in NBA history! The other clown is hip-hop from the get-go.....and will in all probability end up with some off the court issues that will cut short his playing career by 10 years! Even if he stays on the court, the odds are overwhelmingly in John's favor to keep that record indefinitely!
