A trade with Boston.

Boston is looking to move Wallace so they can go hard after LaMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews. If you are Utah, do you trade for Wallace and a pick owed from Brooklyn? Brooklyn owes Boston their 2016 pick and Boston can swap with Brooklyn for their 2017 pick.

The 2017 pick could be a really, really good pick. BUT, you eat up a lot of cap space this summer. But, that pick could be a top 5, top 3 pick.

Is this team worth the pick?:

Exum/Burke/Cotton
Hood/Burks
Hayward/Wallace
Favors/Booker
Gobert/#12 pick

I might do that. I just might do that. Wallace doesn't help us much, but that pick could be amazing. Do you take that risk? I'm not sure I do. Would Boston be desperate enough to move Wallace, Brooklyn's 2017 pick and Dallas' 2016 pick? I think I do that in a heartbeat. Could you imagine getting two lottery picks for taking on Wallace's deal?

Or do you just file this away in the bad idea file and wait for it to slip to the second page and into obscurity...

The maximum you can get from Boston for Wallace is 1 first rounder and they would probably want it to be #28 this year. I doubt they would be willing to trade the BOS/BKN 2017 pick in this trade, but if they do, I do it in a heartbeat.

This is an interesting thought. My only comment is that if Boston needs to clear space to make a run at those two then DL needs to make them hurt in order to clear that space.

I believe in you DL.

If that offer was made, I'd be all in. But...I don't think the Nets are going to be among the five worst teams in the League next year. So I reckon the pick could very well be a lottery pick, but not possibly a top three as the OP mentioned.

But I would take on Wallace's contract to get, say, a 12 pick, because I think packaging that with our (probably 18th/19th) pick next year could move us into the 5th or 6th pick, which is something I would covet.

All of this would be moot, really, because Boston knows the value of both of those Brooklyn picks and they won't give either one up just to dump salary. As someone else mentioned, they'll want to part with their own or Dallas' pick to dump Wallace's contract. If it had two years left on it, they might be willing to sweeten the deal with a high pick. But not as currently constituted.

It depends on what DL thinks he can get done this summer. Signing a good player to a long term deal before the cap jumps in 2017 would be a better use of resources. If there are no players that fit, or they get matched, then taking on Wallace's salary for a pick is an excellent choice. Granted the pick won't be top 5, only complete tanking teams get that high.

I'd do the deal for Wallace if it included this year's #16 pick and the BKN pick. Utah would probably just buy Wallace like Perkins.

Get real. How is this idea bad for the Jazz? What the **** is the risk? And why in the hell would Boston use it's best asset to dump a contract it doesn't really have to get rid of when there are a bunch of teams with cap space?

$10mm for a late first round draft pick? WTF am I missing here?

There used to be picks available for around $3M. However, with the cap increasing, not many teams will need to dump salary. However, I agree with you. If we're basically buying a pick by assuming a bad cointract, $10M is a very steep price. Only way to justify that is if Utah had to spend (or pay out the difference in player bonuses) if they were under the salary floor. But the Jazz won't be.

Let's get a third team involved. A team with some history with Boston..

Hi Minnesota!

Utah picks up Ricky Rubio, and pacmans his contract. You're Welcome!

Wallace is sent to Minnesota to see if his old defensive prowess can spur Andy Wiggins on.

Boston picks up the incomparable Trey Burke, to see if they can have any better luck.

Picks, filler, and cash added here and there.
