What's new

A very scary thought...

Imagine Gobert training with Karl Malone over the summer and gaining 15-20 pounds of muscle... holy ****. Game Over NBA.

Did you notice how much he toned up this past summer while he in the World Cup and had an appendectomy?

If he follows Hayward's workout plan he will look great.

I'm a bigger fan of guys gaining weight naturally with age. Hit the weights, eat right, the strength will come. I'd hate to see him pack weight on and lose some of his agility/spring.

Agreed - Rudy's physical improvements from last year to this were impressive. I'd say stick with what's worked for him. I'm hoping he spends his training time mostly figuring out one or two go-to post moves, and perhaps a counter. I doubt he'll be able to be consistent with it next year, but as long as he continues to improve his hands/awareness offensively the easy buckets should continue to be there for him regardless if he ever develops post moves.

The rest of the NBA is already screwed. Rudy has completely changed the fortunes of the Jazz. I agree with those who are saying to just let Rudy do what he's done in the past, he'll get gradually better and that's enough. Just don't get seriously injured - at this point that would be the only thing preventing Rudy from being a star - perhaps superstar - in this league for the next 10 years.

I'd rather have him work with Hakeem.

And I don't want him to lose any mobility either, but I do think adding around 10 pounds of muscle would really help him to back people down, stop others from establishing deep position against him, and finish through contact.

Yes, yes they are!

When Malone worked with Gobert, Kanter and Favors a couple of years ago I didn't see any noticeable jump in skill. In fact you could probably argue that Kanter regressed. Gobert already has fire and determination, get him someone with a proven track record and his offense will come along just fine.

Great players are rarely great teachers. In fact most of them are below average - there are literally hundreds of examples.

Why does everyone think Karl Malone is some sort of athletic training genius? He worked his *** off and had insanely superior genetics. I'd much rather have him working with a professional trainer than lifting pigs and running through mud bogs with malone.

Actually Rudy is the one guy this kind of stuff would probably work for. Rudy running up the mountain dragging two tires on chains, would be serious fan boy porn. . .

Not saying I wouldn't get a fan boner but I'd rather have him working with a pro maximizing his amazing potential.

I'd rather him workout with P3 and the Jazz staff.

Working out with Hakeem is overrated. It's just a showpiece for the media.

Malone was a workout extremist. Not sure that is necessary for everybody. Also Just want Gobert to improve. He'll get more muscle with time and a reasonable workout. Rather him work on footwork and a 10' Jumper just to be a threat.

Its already been talked about that Rudys physical transformation was due to the plan that Mark, the Jazz straight and conditioning coach, put together. Mark puts together the plans for all the Jazz players, including Hayward and Rudy.

In my head I read

Malone was a workout terrorist. Not sure that is necessary for everybody. Also Just want Gobert to improve. He'll get more muscle with time and a reasonable workout. Rather him work on footwork and a 10' Jumper just to be a threat.

Somehow extremist and terrorist are interchangeable in my head.

Hayward turned into a man during the offseason.
