We need to tank to get a top 3 pick and give us the best chance at landing a franchise player. Next year needs to be what this year was supposed to be: a year to play the young players, start fresh with a new coach, and lose the hell out of games.

Yes, but who? I might be inclined to agree if there was some sort of consensus franchise player next year, but so far, none has emerged.

So, we add A. Gordon if we stay at 5, because he is BPA, fits our team, and has the highest ceiling of those remaining.

Everyone wanted Wiggins, Embiid or Parker, but it didn't happen with the lotto. Now we're forming plans for the future that are based in reality.

If no franchise player exists, you can't tank for them.

If we get a top-3 pick next year, the Jazz have FAR more serious concerns than just drafting a franchise player.

Jazz managed to "tank" into the 4th/5th worst record with injuries, a career worst year by their starting SG, a coach who made some questionable rotational decisions, and teh struggles of a rookie PG. If the Jazz were to finish with the worst or second-worst record (pretty much the only way to get a top-3 pick), it would mean a) Hayward is replaced by a street FA, the #5 pick is bust, Trey shows no sign of improvement, and Favors and Kanter flounder. Or plan B, we just hope for season-ending injuries to 3 of those players in training camp.

And that coach? He'd likely sign a 3-4 yr. deal. So we gotta hope he's completely clueless and the Millers are willing to eat $8M when they fire him.

But I'd also be trying to turn #5 into #2 or #3, since I'm assuming the Cavs will go for Embiid.

But if Aaron Gordon can guard 2-4, then **** he could fix a lot of our problems.

Trade Burke to the Magic for the #12 pick.

Package #12 and #23 to the Lakers for #7.

Draft Smart at #5 and Gordon at #7.
