About 95% Official: Kyle Korver is Gone

I have no idea what Utah is doing. Kevin O'Connor is either really, really stupid or a mad genius. There's no way he's in between.
And add Sloan to that list. He did say the fans didn't know what [the Jazz] we're trying to accomplish.
Actually, don't the Jazz have to use their MLE on Matthews? So Korver would be out of the picture. How can KOC be talking to FA's. All he'll have is the minimum exception. No one of value signs for that amount.

I think Korver has been 95% sure he's not coming back for quite a while - coming back from injury early, obviously protecting his 3pt% at the end of the season. I don't think he was ever willing to give a Utah discount, he just wants to say the right things like all agents tell their players.

This Hayward pick as a "shocker" is nothing but a convenient out for him to be the good guy while looking elsewhere.

Korver was going before last season even started. They weren't going to pay him. Anyway, this team has 8th seed first round exit written all over them.

"Does it preclude us from making a trade or moving somebody? No," O'Connor said. "We're going to look to improve our team."

It is an annual tradition that, after doing little-to-nothing, Kevin alludes to an impending trade in the not-so-distant future... just long enough to pacify the fan-base until they start to slide into a comfortable optimism about the roster status quo.

Yep. Insert next quote from KOC about teams not offering a fair price, or nothing was out there that would have made the team better.

We're set for next season. Sloan thinks guys should "pay their dues" so I'll give an edge to Gaines and Jeffers over any of the other OSL campers.

Deron, Price, Gaines
Matthews, CJ, Jeffers
AK, (CJ), Hayward
Millsap, (AK), Evans
Okur, Fes, Koufos

Rumors will surface near the deadline re: AK's contract, but again, no trade will be made because A) other teams were not offering fair value and/or B) nothing that was offered would have made the team better.

That's not true. When Kevin is alluding to future transactions he usually means signings like Gaines and Jeffers. It's our fault for thinking he could possibly have any balls.

Balls or being responsible? He has to keep the Jazz competitive or the fans stop coming and they have a real problem on their hands right? It's a small market, I don't think they have a ton of room for big mistakes/risks

I actually like Korver and what he brings to the Jazz and the community. He fits in real well here. He does what's expected of him and plays with lots of energy and excellent shooting. He stays in front of his man, for the most part. Plus, he's clutch when we need him to be. Honestly, I don't think the Jazz used him enough.

The problem is that we don't have a guy like Shaq to plug up the middle. Maybe the Jazz should make the move to sign Korver along with Shaq for MLE and see if he bites? I know he's slow, but I'm thinking we have such a great point guard that we don't need him to be super fast on every play. It would improve our nastiness, that's for sure. It'd be interesting to see how Fez would respond to playing against Shaq in practice all the time.

Personally, I'd rather see the Jazz sign Korver and move CJ. Korver, for all his weaknesses, strikes me as much more consistent than CJ. With Korver, you know more or less what you're going to get night in and night out. With CJ it's a complete crap shoot. They guy is all over the map. Great one night, a total stinker the next, and so on. I think Hayward duplicates CJ's skill set more than he duplicates Korver's. I've never been a big CJ fan. The guy is much overrated by some on this board IMHO.

I wouldn't mind bringing him back. There will be just as much/more PT for him to play in since AK is going to have to play some serious time @ the 4 with Boozer's departure. I certainly don't have much confidence that our rookie is going to play better than Korver anytime soon.

SG: CJ/Korver/Wes
SF: Kirilenko/Hayward/CJ

Give me CJ over Korver anyday of the week. The only thing consistant about Korver is his one dimensional game, poor defense, and a liability with the ball in his hands. CJ has improved his game each year. Korver is Korver.

I don't think CJ is spectacular, but he's definitely better than Korver. I think you are overrating Korver, big time.

I'm not overrating Korver, I'm well aware of his limitations. I just think he's more consistent than CJ, particularly from the 3, and in a league where the 3 has become a primary weapon, Korver fills a very important role. CJ has more talent than Korver, but he can't (or so far hasn't) put it together with any kind of reliable consistency.

"While we debate who's worth max money, Korver and his brother are off building handicapped ramps for needy families in the area. "
