...some clown on Jim Rome is Burning, an ESPN guy, said that there's no question Blake will be better than Karl Malone! Well, we know Blake can dunk.....but can he accumulate 33,000 points, 20,000 rebounds and average 55 wins a year? I don't think so!

You're an idiot, because I watched Rome yesterday, and that's not what the guy said. He said he had all the physical skills to be the best PF ever, but he did not say there's "no question" that it would definitely happen. He was talking about skill level - the same way people talked about LeBron having the potential to be the best SF ever (or even best player ever) when he was a rookie, based on physical talent.

And the guy's not wrong. Griffin DOES have the talent to be the best PF ever. Does that mean I think it's going to happen? No. Because potential is just that. But just to defend the guy's opinion about Griffin's potential, just take the two players' rookie years. Rookie Malone isn't even in the same ballpark as Rookie Griffin. To be fair, Griffin had a year of sorta-learning after missing what should have been his rookie season; on the other hand, even WITH that extra year on the bench in the pros, he's still a year younger than Malone was as a rookie.

That said, Griffin is going to be hard-pressed to have the kind of pathological work ethic that made Malone as great as he was.

Malone's records are safe- Griffin is definitely not looking durable. But I've NEVER seen such athleticism before. The dude is a beast beyond words. He's won't burn long but he'll burn very, very brightly...

He will be the best ever.
Haven't you heard, the 2 most important qualities of an NBA player are athleticism and speed.
If Lebron was the King, Griffin will be the Emperor.
All hail Caesar Blake!!!!

You're a moron.

But yes, Griffin has the skills, finesse, and strength to be one of the greats. I see him leading the league in scoring and rebounding within a few years.

Go take a look at rookies who've averaged 20 and 10 and then get back to me.

Forget Malone, Blake has more of a shot than LeBron does at overtaking MJ IMO. He has to hold up and he has to win.

It's called sarcasm, it runs in my blood, and I apologize.

Griffin is good, and has the potential to be a HOF player, but lets give him 10 years first.

I was just spouting off on that old athleticism and speed crap I hear all the time.
Yes it is good to have, but desire, drive, determination, and hard work are more important.

You are exactly right. After all this is why the Jazz kept Adam Keefe on the team for so long. The man was a living legend.

If you compare where BG is this point in his career to where Malone was at this same time in his career it is a no brainer. Every GM in the world would take Griffin. The longevity issue is obviously the long term issue but BG is the real deal if he can stay healthy.

Yes, there needs to be some amount of talent and athleticism to be able to compete, thank you... that is a given. So why was Keefe not HOF material, and yet Stockton was? Was it because Stockton could jump over people and dunk on them, while Keefe couldn't?

While there needs to be a minimum amount of physical requirements, to be an all-time great you need these other things I was talking about. How many great "talents" have flamed out and done nothing for one reason or another?

See bold above....

....excuse me, numbnuts....but that IS what he said: "Griffin will without question, be a better player than Malone was!" Maybe you can hunt down the actual dialogue for the show. He did not say anything about "potential"! Fact is, not only was Malone a more skilled player than Griffin will ever be, but one Karl Malone brain cell....would bust Griffins head wide open! Malone was probably the SMARTEST basketball player, to EVER play the game! Griffin has no jumpshot to speak of....and would have to have a total brain transplant to even come close to Malone's basketball IQ! I suspect Griffin will be out of the league before he even reaches half of any of Malone's totals!

I hate how the sports media has turned into a bunch of National Enquirer psychics who spend more time telling us about what is going to happen, instead of telling us about what DID happen.

I think Kevin Garnett during his MVP season was as impressive a PF as I've seen, although Malone's Game 5 in 1998 was legendary. Garnett had streaks when he could shoot on anyone, dunk on anyone, block anyone and outjump anyone for rebounds. Griffin has the physical tools though, no doubt.

Nobody was in that ballpark.

I remember Derrick Coleman having the skill level to be greater than the Mailman. However, work ethic and desire also are critical components to the equation.
