What's new

According to this source, Lionel Hollins might not be back in Memphis.

We're sticking with Ty next year no matter what.

Even if Ty instantiates terrible rotation patterns, he is our coach.
Even if he chooses one of his buddies who has terrible credentials as an assistant, he is our coach.
Even if a back court lineup registers one of the worst rebounding rates of all of NBA history and Ty never changes it, he is our coach.
Even if the post is being extremely well defended and Ty keeps going inside, he is our coach.
Even if one of his chosen assistants winds up in court due to tax evasion, he is our coach.
Even if the player captain decides to take a few possessions off to stay on the other side of the court and Ty keeps him in, he is our coach.
Even if that player is completely gassed out and Ty keeps him in despite that player being a lousy defender even under normal conditions, he is our coach.
Even if our offense revolves around a below league average player, then by God come hell or high water, he is our coach.

Rep'd HARD.

This is just what I heard, the reason he may not be back is he doesn't coach/use analytical stats that Hollinger is known for.
Just mentioning that since I know the majority of this board believe in using that, with that said I think the Grizz would be living dangerously if they let him walk.

I have a tough time believing Hollins wasn't integral in the Grizzlies getting their fortunes turned around. I know analytics would suggest he's sometimes incompetent, but... well... I don't know. He might be a casualty of an organization out-thinking themselves. I'd say they'd do better to bring in a guy that could communicate some of the concerns many people have shared INTO the coaching staff. But what do I know.

As far as how this relates to the Jazz, it doesn't.

A similar situation in LA, although CP3 was the main reason behind VDN getting fired. Grizz and Clips had good coaches, but ownership believed they just weren't good enough to take them the next step. Could be wrong, could be right.

The Jazz's dilemma is do you pay two coaches if your goal is to lose, when Ty is more than capable to handle that? Or do you wait until next year to throw money at a coach?

I'm hearing that Karl might be out in Denver.

I'd take either of those coaches in a heart beat over Ty Corbin.

Karl is leaving if he's out, and he's leaving to go to a good team. One that probably doesn't currently have a head coach.

I don't think he is going anywhere, though.
